Thank you, Malcolm, for turning me on to The Venus in Furs, even if they're a cover band for the Velvet Goldmine Soundtrack, which I am conveniently listening to now. :) I am so in love with 2HB and Ladytron and now have to get the original versions from Roxy Music. These songs are now in my head a lot, and I can see how/why you were going crazy to figure out who/what they were. I feel so loved that you chose to share them with me and I will think of you whenever I hear them...always. Thanks!!

Believe it or not, the Glittery Freak knows who in the heck you're talking about for once! Was there when Malcom (cool guy!) first "turned you on" to them and I've been discussing Ladytron at work. Good stuff!

The Ladytron I mentioned in this entry is in reference to a song by Roxy Music from their first record in 1972. It was the second of the 2 songs we heard that night, but at that time we had only discovered the name of the first song, 2HB, and determined it meant "To Humphrey Bogart." However, there IS a band called Ladytron. We have their debut release called "604" that came out in 2000. Courtesy Amazon.com:

Is this what we once imagined the future would sound like? On 604 Liverpool-based synth-pop collective Ladytron show all the electronic hallmarks of 1980, only without the "New Dawn of Technology" neurosis. Remember in those days how man feared the totalitarian march of the machine? How we worried that our friends might be electric? That our minds might be toys? That video would kill the radio star? That human labor would be redundant and we'd all be reduced to a Mao-suited existence in some morose metropolis? OK, so 604 does contain a few Marxist nursery rhymes (sung by stern Bulgarian female vocalist Mira Aroyo) but it also contains a version of the theme tune to '70s sit-com "Are You Being Served" (sung sweetly by the kittenish "Bond girl" voice of Helen Marnie). Ladytron's inspired, accessible electro-pop is where latter-day, Tarwater-style Krautrock meets the melodic appeal of the Human League, the Pet Shop Boys and Abba, with just a little bit of the sociosexual commentary of Black Box Recorder thrown in for good measure. I wouldn't be surprised if they DID take their name from the Roxy Music song...it IS a cool title!
