Feeling a little nostaligic.

Our roommate is playing a Phantom of the Opera soundtrack, and it is filling the apartment. And it reminds me of my high school junior year marching band show...hearing the same melodies, remembering some of the choreography, and things related to the show. Yeah, lots of bands did it. Our show had some incredible things in it. I wish I had a copy of that show now, to watch again.

One of french horn players had a solo, and he was the Phantom; we had an air brushed tarp of the phantom mask that was scrunched up on the field and the colorguard (which I was in) went around it in a tight circle, grabbed it and expanded outward to show the image from anyone looking onto the field; in the opener, the band did a little dance thing; one of the songs all the woodwinds were staggered and had their arms out, forming crosses (which we ran through with lame flags-1 short flag in each hand) and the brass and percussion formed a scull and cross bones. At one point, we were short a flag for Masquearde and so I was the one without, and had to run up to the phantom player, scream, and run back to my place. Sound pretty neat?

It was a fantastic show, and consequently, we won a lot of competitions. We did Tommy the following year, and while it had neat bits in it, I think the Phantom show was more creative, and expressive.
