That's Florida for you

Yesterday, we were doing all we could to stay cool as it was in the upper 80's/lower 90's and sunny for much of the day. Today, it is a chilly 55 degrees and raining outside. I sometimes wonder whether Mother Nature is on crack, or if Florida is as much of a joke to Mother Nature as it is to the whole country. Maybe she has to recount the votes to see what the weather should really be like. Oddly enough, our first really big rainstorm of the year happened a few days ago, and I realized that no matter how much I hate driving in that kind of rain, I would deeply miss the storms if I moved away.

Agreed. Sometimes those torrential downpours are just the thing to lull me to sleep at night. But I actually enjoy driving in them -- except on motorcycles.

Yes, there is that certain lulling quality to rain. And the commercial market has capitalized on it bigtime!! Once, I put a tape recorder on my back porch to record a storm and then sent it to a friend as a reminder of home.

I miss that kind of weather. It may seem like a pain in the ass sometimes, but being out here in LA really makes you long for even a little variance. Sweeping shifts in temperature and precipitation always reminded me the earth was moving. Here it's more like it's moving around us. Which isn't far from true, figuratively.

Remember the "people on the roof" when you came in 2000, and I said that was thunder. It made me laugh. You made me laugh. You had obviously been away from FL for too long. I sometimes love driving through the awful, torrential rain here...the kind that floods streets here, and think to what it would be like in LA if it was the same rain (and how the people would react)...then I laugh an evil HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! :)
