Oh yum!

We had a friend to help tonight, and afterward we were both famished, and needed dinner, but where would we go at nearly 10pm...on a Friday night? A few minutes of thought, and as we were driving toward home, we spotted Houston's and decided to go there, even though we thought it would be packed and we knew it was pricey...we had decided to just get appetizer's and if we were hungry still, we'd have something at home.

We went inside and were seated within minutes, much to our surprise, and much to my surprise, they had a veggie plate, as Houston's is known for their steaks. The veggie plate was a variety of veggie dishes...steamed cauliflower with cashews and a light creamy curry laced sauce (I think there might have been some kind of bean too, but I am not sure), carrots and parsnips in a maple sauce, garlic parmesan green beans with fingerling potatoes (I think) and corn, cooked but chilled mutant asparagus (I kid you not...these things were thicker than my fingers and a good 7 inches or more I'd guess...I'll take a pic of my leftovers in the morning) with a dijon hollandaise sauce served with a chilled cous cous salad. Chas ended up hearing the specials including a "Rutherford Ribeye" and we both drooled over the guacamole and chips...avocado, corn, onion, and tomatoes...and the taste of the avocado wasn't dulled. The guac was quite fresh and tasty with the freshly made tortilla chips. SO...$80 later, and full and satisfied, we left. :P I paid, my treat, since Chas has been very wonderful to me lately, and I wanted to thank him. And of course it is payday. :)

Wish I'd had room to try some dessert and coffee, but I admit I gobbled up the guac and chips and was really pretty full by the time my food had arrived. I admit I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and the food. We will definitely go back, though it is pricey, so it can't be too often.

Its nice when a restaurant has healthy alternatives. MM sounds yum, i
love asparagus, have you seen the white asparagus? i heard it tastes the same its just white. Guac 'n' tortilla chips are a personal favorite of mine.

I think houston may be a local restaurant there since i never heard of it here in Cali.
Im very happy you and Chas had a great dinner ! :) it's nice when you try a place and you have a great experience there. Really leaves a smile on your face.

Yeah, I have had white too, and it does taste the same. Iwas really happy to see the veggie plate because I have been watching my meat consumption more carefully as I am more conscious of my weight. It is a chain, and they have some in CA, from what I saw with a google search.

$80 for a late light dinner??!! That's special event dining, Heather! Yeeeikes! Nearly a whole day's take home pay for dinner? Not unless it's a special occasion. I'm reeling from sticker shock - can you tell? - Jim-poverished in Asheville

Well, it was supposed to be a light dinner. That is what we had planned before deciding to go there. But then Chas heard the specials, and I heard the veggie plate stuff, so it was no longer sharing and appetizer or two for a light meal.

Enter: full-fledged dinner. Exit: $80 from my account.
