Saw the extended version of The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring yesterday in a theater across town. Next weekend is The Two Towers extended version and then we will be ready for Return of the King. Hoorah! And yes, we DO have the first two 4-disc sets with the extra footage, but it is so much better seeing a movie of this magnitude on the big sreen. It is just better. End of story. Anyhow, I was reminded how fantastic it is, and how much I adore Pippin (Billy Boyd). :) I think I like him so much is that he reminds me a little of Doctor Who #8, played by Paul McGann, though he is Irish and Billy is clearly Scottish. I think it is the hair and costumes on visual appearance, but on personality, the 8th Doctor can be quite humorous too. Plus the accents. Maybe I am grasping at straws here, or maybe I am just stark mad or something. :)

Anyhow, the movie(s) still move me to tears where tears are necessary, and my heart jumps and pounds where it is meant to. In years to come (if not already now), it will live in the hearts and minds of millions as perhaps the best trilogy ever! I mean, what more can you ask for? A hot cast for most of the heroes (for both sexes), beautiful scenery and attention to detail, and a brilliant story that combines classic storytelling elements...adventure, love and romance, comedy, happiness, sadness, struggle, good fighting evil. I may have left something out, but I think that this about covers it.

I say this honestly when I say I don't like fighting or fight scenes in movies, but the charm of these films leaves me with no regrets for seeing them. There is so much more than fighting, so much more than a love story, so much more than your average movie. I only wish I had the patience, and comprehension skills to get through the books. I have tried, but there is just too much. Perhaps once I have seen all 3 stories, I will be able to return to the books, and pick up what was missing from the movies.

I don't really know what else to say now, so I guess I will leave it at that.
