So, despite the rain, Chas and I still went out to dinner. Hoorah! We went to the Fiddler's Green for some Irish food. As usual, he had fish and chips with malt vinegar (blech!) and I had some yummy corned beef and cabbage. It may be Irish, but it still counts as Jew food to me. I grew up having this at home, so on a cold and rainy night, it was a warm and hearty meal as well as nostalgic.
Speaking of Jew food, today at work they were having an Eid celebration, a festival associated with the ending of Ramadan. It was presented as a diversity offering for the employees; a way for us to learn more. I was all for it, but I went mainly for the food. :) Too bad it was sold out once I got there. :( The dessert was free though...a date, finger baklava, and a samosa with yoghurt sauce. The samosa is actually a savory vegetable filled pie which I thought was Indian, but I guess it is a regional food. The sauce had a spicy kick to it though it was still good. They also had mango juice and arabian coffee. Arabian coffee? Yes. It had cardamom and ginger and other spices brewed in it, much like Indian chai does. I enjoyed it all and even got a henna tattoo on my right hand. I will try to take a picture of it when I get home.
I also learned today that I did not get the position, though I was 1 point off, and I tied with someone else, so I was encouraged to apply again once they expand the position.
Well, time to go home folks. Whee!
much love,
me
