Turkey Day Bits
4 December 2004 11:58The day itself was crazy. I had to work, and we were the only center open, with about 5 outages in Georgia and South Carolina combined. Not good. I thought I'd never get out early. The family dinner wasn't til 5pm and my flight (more later on this) wasn't until 9:20pm so I was not worried that much for a while. Come 4:15pm and I was able to break free. I went home and had my bro pick me and my bags up to go to Thanksgiving...the house was somewhat closer to the airport. Talked with some cousins. Missed Chas, but he was with his father already on their way to Atlanta , where I was headed later that night. The dinner itself was mediocre in taste, but with family around it was enjoyable. The subject of moving to Canada came up and I really wasn't prepared to state my case as it were, though one of my aunts was there, and she had stated not too long ago that she thought Vancouver was a place we'd enjoy, a place that she thought of us when she visited. So that's cool. I had to state that we really had to do more research and visit before there was anything else I wanted to share. Though when I shared that I was still a citizen, my brother had a fit because it would have made his trip to England easier a few years back. He got excited and wants to get the info I have on it. At about 7:30-ish, my brother took me to the airport and we had a nice time talking. He thinks we should move if we want to, and he agrees that we will likely be happier there for the type of people we are.
At the airport. I got the nearly full check. Had a woman quasi fondle me in an efficient cold manner. Boo. Though she wasn't hot anyway. Good thing I don't have a copper IUD as it would be odd explaining I have a bit of metal in my uterus to them when it triggers the scanning device. Though I guess if I had one these days I would have a card to carry like though with pacemakers. The flight was short and I felt a little out of place in that airport as I had never been there before, but I had to get to MARTA to meet Chas at one of the stations so we could go to the hotel. Mmmmm, it was a nice hotel. It was the nicest actually.
Left early the next morning for Cornelia, where the family reunion was, the whole reason we were there to begin with. It was an hour or so northeast of Atlanta. We saw lots of old things from my FIL's past, like the houses he spent summers at, and graves where relatives going back to the civil war were buried. Met up with some family at the Dis-Comfort Inn. Had a brief tour of the Kmart. Went to the only non fast food place nearby in the town of Claksville. Had more relatives have a social get up before heading to the McDonalds for dinner. Yup. You read me right. Though in its defense, it was a gourmet (or bistro as some call it) Mc Donalds. There were a lot of people there and the next day at the actual reunion there was going to be more. Ate and chatted, chatted and ate. My FIL brought his genealogy stuff to show the relatives what he had done so far, and to tell them what he wanted from them. Lots of old pictures were shared.
The next day was the reunion, with loads more people than the previous evening, and after a few hours everyone began to go seperate ways. We headed back to south Atlanta for the night so we would have an easier time leaving the next morning. the town we were staying in was called Morrow, so it was funny to me that at the hotel desk it said "Welcome to Morrow" on the back wall. Ha ha, get it? Had dinner at a local joint, something we try when we are out of town. I mean, how different is KFC in Atlanta than Orlando? Not much, so we like finding unique spots on our trips.
The nxt day, Sunday, we left around 9:30am for what was supposed to be 7-8 hours to get back home. but, lo and behold, traffic would not have it that way and it took us about 11 hours total. Chas is such a hero for driving the whole weekend. :) We saw a flipped car and lots of cars pulled over, and lots of snowbirds. That puts us pretty much to the time when our neighbor's car spontaneously combusted, which I have already shared.
Chas is putting together a webpage of the weekend. Will post the link when it is ready.
