We just came back from seeing An Inconvenient Truth. Honestly, I have to say that it is an odd film, but don't beat me up yet. When I say odd, what I am refering to is a combination of the included material, and the overall structure of the film. The information, overall, is the key to the film, and at times it feels like a biography of Al Gore. Now, part of that is necessary to give the background to his passion, determmination, and persistence fighting global warming, and eduacating as many people as he has. Nevertheless, it is a film worth seeing. I think that the skeptics owe it to themselves to at least see the film. The may walk out thinking the same way that they went in, or they might be moved, and be willing to reconsider their position. At the very least, this film can challenge belief systems, and challenging beliefs causes a person to think, and evaluate how they feel, and thinking is good.
And *I* got to thinking after the film. During the final credits, mixed in with everything about the film, things you can do to help came to the screen. A seed was planted in me. Metaphorically and symbolically. One of the items listed was to plant more trees. Something so simple, and something that grows to be so beautiful. I got to thinking about something that I have known about for a long time. There is a program, called Trees for Israel, and people buy a tree in someone's honor, and it is planted in Israel. It is designed to benefit the environment there which is arrid, and has had great success over many years. Anyhow, I have decided that I want to buy people a tree, or otherwise plant a tree in their honour for birthday's anniversaries, etc. And I would ask that someone do the same for me as well. I wonder, collectively, if everyone planted just one tree, whether it is for a wedding, birthday, anniversay, or for themself, in a one year period, how strongly that would impact this planet, the climate, the beauty, and the survial. I know that I at least intend to plant a tree for a loved one, whether it be through a fund like the Trees for Israel/Trees for the Holy Land even though it is more an ethical and environmental decision versus a religious thing. I would ask that my friends here consider the same thing when thinking of gifts for people, or simply the Earth. Well, that is all for now I suppose. Positive and inspirational message given. :)
