This is for you, [livejournal.com profile] morgaine_nicely (and anyone else who has issues/concerns with the boom of the Atkins Diet/Lifestyle).

So here is my low carb diet thought of the day: If carbohydrates are so bad, and are the culprit to what is making Americans so fat, and causing various health issues, why does it not seem to affect Asian populations whose diets are plentiful in rice and noodles?

They're not. It's the combination of high-carb and low-activity diet that leads to where we are. It's also the fact that the carbs taken in are fast-burning, high-energy carbs, like those seen in white bread. Aside from being far more active - largely because there's a greater emphasis on physical labour still - the Asians also have an intake that doesn't involve huge amounts of highly processed carbs.

The Atkins diet isn't healthy in the slightest, but it works and no one's going to listen otherwise. More to the point, it works be adapting your diet for your lifestyle - thus, someone with an active lifestyle should never, ever go on the Atkins diet.

Anymore thoughts? Or do you limit yourself to just one a day? :-P

I agree with you on many of your points. I am just trying to look at the whole thing from a different perspective and, honestly, I have A LOT of thoughts regarding low carb diets/lifestyles. Some positive and some negative. Probably far too many to list here though.

Because they eat very little fat and sugar.
