Just wanted to say to all of you who were kind enough to send emails, flowers, food (my cardiologist liked the caviar), and good wishes in general, the rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated.
Yesn on Thursday afternoon I was rushed from the set of Iron Chef America: Battle of the Masters to St. John’s in beautiful Santa Monica California. Yes, it was my heart but I did not have a heart attack. Apparently stress, fatigue and dehydration following a prolonged bout of vomiting brought on by a migraine threw my heart into arrhythmia. It took the docs about 8 hours to get my ticker back in the groove and they kept me overnight so that they could stick me with more needles and force me to eat hospital food but now I’m out and resting…as much as I ever rest.
To those of you who were hoping to catch me at the South Beach Food and Wine festival, I’m sorry but I had to cancel…against my will. The doctor’s just wouldn’t let me fly so soon.
So let's recap: I am not dead. I did not have a heart attack. In fact I’ve seen an ultrasound of my heart and it looks darned fine. I just gotta get a little more sleep and I’ve got to lay off those espressos.
Yes folks, you read right. Alton Brown, host of my favorite food show Good Eats, is going to be on a new version of Iron Chef from the Food Network...playing the Dr Hatori role. It is a role that will suit him well.
