I've been "tune-less" for a week now, and it is driving me crazy. I have way too much time to hear the traffic and the sounds my car makes or talk to myself or think about things...it is maddening.
A week ago, the same day I had my weird work schedule, I got to leave early...voluntary go home. So I offered to take my car-less buddy
phishtails home since he was leaving early too, even though it was not on my way. I was just being the nice and kind person I am. :) Anyhow, we are listening to music on a tape and talking about music, and I say I want to play a song from The Doors that I like, that he hadn't heard of. I put the tape in (a massively old tape I should mention...one of the first ones I ever made), it is on Concrete Blonde, so I know I am on the right side, and I hit the fast forward button to skip to the song...except that it got stuck in that mode. I couldn't press play or stop it or eject it or anything...even after I turned the power off to the unit you could still hear the wheels inside spinning. After turning the car off, you could still hear it. Chas did his darnedest to get that tape out but to no avail. We eventually took it up to Circuit City and they killed the power to the unit. Unfortunately, the radio won't play with a tape still in and, since we had to cut the power to the whole unit, there is no music to be heard. Despite being an older car (1989 Acura Legend--the top model offered then), it has a good and fairly advanced stereo system with graphic equalizer and computerized buttons, lots of other buttons and stuff. It's actaully quite nice for original factory components. Well, at 14 years old I guess I can't expect it to live forever and I knew it was going crap out one day, but now? I would love to replace the unit with a cd player, an mp3 player even, but I don't have the money, and any money I have to spend on the car has to go to fixing the master cylinder and air...two very important things. But is my sanity more important than brakes or air? Chas wants to start up a donation fund for me to get it fixed as an early birthday present...he's so sweet!
