Wow. Some people are just plain mean. I am seeing lj drama in a few of my communities. I do not like being called a retard by someone who doesn't even know me. At least I have the brains to call it quits without stooping to their level. There is no point arguing with someone who just likes to argue. Ya know?

aw thanks :) The victoria one--I was tempted to say something terribly nasty, but I thought that summed things up lol. Like what, did the guy think that I went to the community to look at what people said to you or something? good god. Sooooory for having an opinion! gah

And both of the vancouver posts...I dunno, man. That [livejournal.com profile] smacksaw guy is certainly odd sometimes, but I don't he's a "troll" by any means. And the second post about it, that guy's on my friends list so I know he didn't mean any harm or anything--he's a really nice guy, but then everyone gets in on it.

Hongcouver--I really don't get the fuss, but if it bugs people I won't use it. What the HELL is a "honger" anywyay? geez. Even my friends in San Francisco call it Hongcouver. And they sure ain't white ;)

Your reference to Vansterdam in relationship to Hongcouver makes perfect sense. There is a bit of a pot culture there...just as there is an Asian one. It is indicitive of the people in the area and, in my opinion, no worse than Chinatown, or Little Italy. I don't think it is any more racist than someone asking me if I am "kosher" with this or with that even though I was raised Jewish. And [livejournal.com profile] smacksaw lives in Richmond, which is what my reference was for (which was from a boook about moving to Vancouver so I'd *tink* they'd do their homework on the statistics...plus the author is Asian), and he included Richmond as part of the Lower Mainland. I guess some people don't? Like maybe they only refer to the non-downtown part of Vancouver as the LM and not the suburbs? I don't know. He has brought up some interesting posts (like the Asiain 911 cough medicine incident), and you don't have to read them if you don't want to.

haha, don't you hate that you can't edit a comment? It bugs the hell outta me. Yeah, most people don't really *think* of Richmond etc as the LM even though it really is. It's towards the valley that isn't--Surrey, Abbotsford etc. I dunno. It's weird.

I agree about the kosher thing--that's a great example.

Ok, THIS kind of stuff is TRUE--I work in a hospital downtown. There are asian people that have lived here 50 years and they just don't bother learning how to speak english. They live in Chinatown, they stay in Chinatown, and then when they have to go to a hospital, they can't communicate. It's ridiculous!! But this happens with other ethnic groups in every major city. It just so happens that we live in Hongcouver :p

Well, you can spell check if you reply at the website when you make a comment, but not when responding via email as I am doing now.

I remember my grandmother in Mansonville, QU refused to see any other doctor that would not speak Polish to her. My mom pointed out that in Montreal there is a Greek neighborhood that is completely Greek (and self sufficient), and no French or English is spoken. I guess big cities all over have similar issues.

We should caht more outside of comments. You on AIM or Yahoo?

Well, if you decide to use an IM client, my info is on my bio page, but locked so only friends logged in can see. I use ichat on Mac OSX which works with AIM, and have Yahoo, but rarely use it. I also AIM on mycell occasionally. I just sent you an email to say hi and interrogate you. :P

Yeah, it is cool. I get paranoid having my info out in the open like that. I have it friends only, but many don't. I guess it is more a personal choice.
