For a moment there, I began singing the lyrics to the Pet Shop Boys song Yesterday, When I Was Mad in place of the lyrics to The Stranglers song (Get A) Grip (On Yourself) before the actual lyrics started. I wonder why that was. Was it because the two songs share a common opening melody that I confused one for the other? Maybe it is the lyric phrasing and symmetry. So I just listened to the intros of both songs, and swapped the opening lyrics on each, and they pretty much fit. Odd how that works. If you have iTunes, you can hear both and judge for yourself (choose the "Grip" option in the list for The Stranglers for the most accurate portrayal of the song; it is the second one down). Even the tempo on both songs have similar characteristics, even though one is synthesized and the other is more rock. One song is from 1977, and the other 1994. Hmm.

"Darling, you were wonderful, you really were quite good,
I enjoyed it, though of course, noone understood.
They wondered what was going on, they didn't have a clue,
They didn't understand your sense of humour like I do."

"Didn't have the money round to buy a Morry Thou
Been around and seen a lot to shake me anyhow
Begged and borrowed sometimes I admit I even stole
The worse crime that I ever did was play some rock 'n roll."
