WANTED: a good ginger tea, free of licorice or anise or fennel, or anything that is remotely licorice tasting.

Any advice from my tea loving friends? I found one tea at Whole Foods without, but it had stevia, and I think that tastes kinda bitter.

I am seriously thinking of buying some ginger, boiling it in some water with lemon slices or wedges, and adding honey. If I made a lot of it, I could cool it, and make a tonic of sorts and bring it woth me to work or wherever. I know I got digestive thingies to take with me around, but I think having ginger tea here and there would be good for my tummy (and my sinuses). I'd need a recipe of sorts though.

I should also get other teas, just for the pleasure of drinking. I so still have honeydew melon white tea. I want more though. I think I will need to find a nice tea shop. I know we have a few around town.

EDIT: It looks like there are a few Republic of Tea blends that might be good, though I don't know if I will be able to find the ones I am interested in at the stores here. Might have to order online.

I was told to drink ginger tea with honey to help my digestion. Though I suppose a ginger mint tea would be good.

I think it would be great to make it. It really wouldn't be too hard, since you are basically talking about a single ingredient herbal tea. I have plain Ginger currently in its jar, pretty granulated up. I would usually drink teas for medical purposes hot, because as such the heat brings out the medicinal value and it is absorbed better through the body. Allowed to cool, some of that is lost as it's steams away. Do you have a big tea ball spoon? That's about the only thing I would say you would need besides the herb itself and a pot. Or at least a really good strainer.

I have always made as many of my own medicinal teas as possible, and this has always seemed to add to the experience of being an active part of the healing.

On the other hand, Avita teas is probably a good brand to try. They tend to do a lot of single herb teas and in bulk. I didn't see that they had their own website, but you can find sites that do sell it.

Good luck!

I used to have a small tea ball, but I don't know what became of it, and the plastic in cup insert got oil on it somehow. How would you suggest I go about making it on my own? Peeled or unpeeled? Grated or ungrated? How much ginger and lemon to how much water?

For tummy troubles, I boil shredded (fresh) ginger and freh (when available) mint leaves together and then sweeten in. Depending onyour variety of tummy troubles, honey may not be the best answer. I usually go with stevia to avoid sugar. But this basic idea works really well.

I was told ginger tea with honey by the guy who checked my tongue out. Said my digestion was poor (and I had a spleen disorder). Ginger and lemon, or ginger and mint, are probably both alright. Do you find stevia has an odd taste?

If you use too much stevia it can be a little bitter. Less is more. I use the herb and brew it along with the rest of my tea, and I think it tastes nice and sweet.

Hmmm. Maybe I will try that mix, though I like things sweet, so i don't know if a little stevia would be enough.

I think it tastes just like sugar, if it is fresh anyway.

If you are going to use honey, make sure it is raw. That way it has the nutrients that have been suggested to you. Otherwise it's just eating sugar and not nutritionally significant :)

Honey

Hard to say because I like licorice. Have you tried the Asian stores?

They have awesome teas. I especially like their Burgundy Cherry and Berry Jamboree.

I LOATHE fennel or licorice or anise tasting teas too and my mother has always tried to shove fennel tea down my throat whenever I've been ill. I'd RATHER STAY ILL that drink it!

Yeah, I know fennel and anise are good for digestion, but I hate the taste, so I will not drink it.

It's not just ginger, but I really like the Stash brand lemon ginger tea. It's got ginger root, lemongrass, hibiscus, safflower, citric acid, and natural lemon flavor. No anise :-)

republic of tea has an orange ginger mint, and you might also try calling http://www.steepstea.com/CMS/ ...their online shopping is currently down for redevelopment, but they're our FAVOURITE teahouse here in vancouver, and they'll ship anywhere! they're so nice!!

I have orange ginger mint, but unfortunately have anise in it, which is why I rarely drink it. I was thinking thier pineapple ginger green tea. My only concern is brewing it without over brewing, as it always seems bitter, so my water is still too hot. I will check that site out when it is fully up and running. Thanks! It wouldn't be the first thing I ordered from Vancouver online.

Me too me too!!!! I love this ginger tea I got from Infusion Tea in College Park. (I didn't buy it to make at home, I had it at the cafe itself.) I hate anise flavor, so I know that it did not have it.

Plus it has AWESOME AWESOME food and is quaint and FUN FUN FUN! It's on Edgewater Drive- you should totally check it out!

I was going to go there with Kris when I got my hair cut before my birthday, but we were short on time that day. I do want to go there though.
