We left our hotel in Vancouver this morning, and headed aroubd the corner to the Pacific Central Station to catch the bus to the ferry dock for our trip to Victoria. It was neat riding in the coach, driving through town trying to identify places on the map while we were going to the BC Ferries terminal, and it was neat driving onto the ferry in the coach as well, The ferry was old and smelly, but the ride was nice enough. Back off the ferry, in the coach, and into Victoria. I can certainly see why Chas liked it so much when he was here in the summer. It has a certain feeling that I did not get in Vancouver, though I have enjoyed Vancouver so far. It would be great to be able to find that same kind of feeling in Vancouver somewhere too. The hotel is great, and so it the courtesy shuttle too. I very nearly picked up a few Canadian cds in a store at The Bay Center (a nice mall), but I did not have time to listen to them all, only Feist, and some of Hot Hot Heat, a band that comes from Victoria. I actually have heard them before, with their song "Goodnight, Goodnight" I think on The-N in between shows. I wish I had time to hear the other two bands, Arctic Fire (?) and Metro. Maybe later. Should go to bed shortly, as it has been a long day and we have another long one tomorrow. Oh, and it may get below 0C (1C right now) and freeze here tonight. Whee!

Chas' recollection (with photos) from September are here.

Will probably get some matcha green tea at the Blenz place near The Bay Center, as it is near where we need to get a few things done before we leave Victoria tomorrow, but a nice formal tea like at the Empress, much as I'd love it, will have to be on a later trip.

Arcade Fire, and the other one is likely Metric. Both very good. Old ferry hey? weird. Hopefully you'll come back on one of the newer ones. Enjoy the land of the newlyweds and nearlydeads.

You're coming back to Vancouver tomorrow, right? What day do you go back to the States, on Thursday?

You're probably right with the band names...I have them written down on a paper in my jacket, just too lazy to get to. :P

Older ferry at least. Chas says the one he took in September was newer. I wish I had known about the name the new ferries contest, as I had what I thought was a good name for one. Now it is over.

Speaking of nearlydeads...we had dinner in the in house restaurant at The Royal Scot...man this place has a lot of old people! We had to be the youngest people in there. :P

We do go back to Vancouver tomorrow, and than back to LA on Thursday...the flight leaves at 5pm, so we have to be at the airport at least an hour before then. But it still gives us time in the morning and early afternoon before we leave. Wish the trio coulda been longer, but I am happy we got here.

LOL thus the nickname for Victoria: land of newlyweds and nearlydeads ;)

Give me a call when you can once you're back and hopefully we can connect for coffee or something. This cold seems to have moved into my chest but since quitting smoking it's not that bad so far *knocks wood*

The newer ferries are the Spirit of Vancouver Island and Spirit of British Columbia--the others are from the late 60s heh

It turns out that the hotel was a place for retirees to go to in the winter, but is much more family oriented outside of the winter. I met a woman who made an ammendment to the sentiment of newlyweds and nearlydeads...she added and acidheads. Heh heh. :)

I'm afraid we got back rather late Wednesday night (on the Spirit of British Columbia this time), and had some dinner plans to make, and had errands to run today before checking out and heading back to LA. :(

I'd suggest picking up a copy of Blue Rodeo's greatest hits, they're one of our best bands. I'd also suggest doing the same with The Tragically Hip.

Back in LA now, but I'll check them out, thanks!

My favourite Blue Rodeo song is Hasn't Hit Me Yet. My favourite Tragically Hip song is Little Bones. Those might be good ones to start off with.
