Looks like the rental car is all set for our drive up to Asheville, NC. I stopped at Budget this morning when I ran a few errands with dorkbot. It is kinda exciting...I haven't been to North Carolina in many years; I think I was there the summer between 6th and 7th grades for a summer camp. Now we are visiting friends of ours that moved there about 4-5 years ago. Chas hes been up a few times, but I've never been able to go up with him. They haven't seen me in years, barring one party last October, for one afternoon, when they came down as a surprise. It should be fun.

So sorry I haven't called back about the stoneware! I was trying to figure out the best way to take care of it. As far as I can tell, what you want to do is really scrub it with a baking soda mixture (bit of water and lots of baking soda- make it like a paste) and scrub it down. Then rinse, let dry, and take some crescent roll dough that you don't want to eat and cover the affected surfaces with the dough. Press it in to the corners if need be.

Cook it according to the directions and then toss the dough- try to dump it out while it's fairly fresh out of the oven.

I don't know how extensive the problem is, and it may help if I could see the stone. Can you take photos? I want to make sure that the stone will be safe to cook food in- that's something you don't want to mess around with, after all.

Push comes to shove, run it through the dishwasher with no soap - depending on how good your dishwasher is, this may remove some seasoning as well, but worth it if it fixes the problem.

Well, after I called you, I pondered the wonders of baking soda, and said, "What the hell, I will give it a try" and I sprinkled some on my wet stone and smushed around. I let it sit and dry and it was like that a day or so until I finally was brave enough to peek at it. Verdict? I think all of the discoloration is gone, and perhaps the science project has moved on. I am not sure, but I wonder about the surface, because at one point it seemed sorta more worn, but on reflection now, I think it is ok. Or at least a lot better. I think I will do the crescent dough thing to be on the safe side. I can take a pic of it after I do that, though my cell doesn't always take the cleanest looking pics.

PS...Thanks for the Wacoal recommendation...they have petites! I am not crazy after all! :P
