I just bought a $20 Tai Chi book from Borders tonight. I liked the styling and I liked the introduction of the book, and sort of bought it impulsively. The book I got is here. What do you think?
interesting how the look of something can just grab one's attention like that. happens to all of us at one time or another. it does look nice. i read link, too. have you been interested in tai chi previously?
do you just want to research it, and the concepts and philosophies?
are you thinking perhaps in the future you may try to take some classes?
i could better tell you, at some point, what i, personally, think after those particular Qs.
i did take tai chi summer before last from April through August. It was extremely intense and focus driven. Absolutely LOVED the experience, and probably much better for my migraines than the more impact driven Kemscrima-Doh that I've/I'd been doing for over 5 and a half years.
i have a lot in gen. i'd like to say to you, but your trip, my trip, missing work for me, high feverish flu, and therefore migraines. i am not good.
Well, you know, I have not had a single direction of what and where I want to go...I have wanted something toning but not too intense, and something martial arts-ish (inspired by your kemscrima doh actually) eventually leading to self defense. At times, many times actually, I feel very vulnerable in my ability to handle a bad situation with someone, and being my size and stature I worry about being able to defend myself properly. I get hoots and hollers and honks when I walk to the bus stop or am waiting. And well, on one level it is flattering, but on the other, I get a little freaked by it. The introduction explained that tai chi is a little bit of a cross between martial arts and meditation, and well, less impact which is probably best, at least as a start. I honestly have NOT researched it yet, and like I said, I read the intro and we were in a hurry to go, and Chas had magazines he wanted and in a split second I said I would buy them for him and ended up leaving with a $20 book along with his magazines.
For right now though, I want a little more order and structure and balance in my life, that I hope to be able to achieve, whether it is through tai chi or some other method. The self defense aspect is a bonus that I don't think yoga or pilates alone could provide. I think I want to research and explore it at the very least. The Wah Lum temple that nymphie goes to for kung fu also has tai chi classes, so I feel that maybe it is more acheivable. I am at least going to read the book and research more, then decide if I want classes, as I am not sure I can do this alone, just from a book, but who knows what my potential is.
Of course I would LOVE to chat more on the subject, especially as you are part inspiration for it all. :) Sending lots of Green Smileys your way, this Valentine's Day (ok, so here it already ended, but not there just yet! ), so know I am thinking of you too, and your trip. ((HUG))
