This morning, my family, and Chas' dad got together for breakfast at The Old Spanish Sugar Mill and Griddle House to celebrate the dads' birthdays...my dad a little late and Chas's dad a little early. It is kind of like the breakfast equivalent of a fondue restaurant, in that they give you the ingredients, and the tools to cook the food. We had two types of pancake batter: unbleached white, and 5 grain. Both batters were tasty. Some of us had eggs and bacon. I had some yummy vegetarian sausage patties and a blueberry smoothie. Among the pancake additions, there were bananas, blueberries, pecans, and chocolate chips. Mine were made with blueberries and bananas. Mommy had french toast. All the food was yummy and filling and we all had a great time.

The restaurant is in De Leon Springs State Park, which is a 60-90 minute drive north from Orlando. It is historic to Florida, as it is said that this is where Ponce De Leon thought the "Fountain of Youth" was. Some of the original ruins are there, though the mill burned down at least twice in the mid 1800's. We stayed in the park for a little while after we ate. Some people took their shoes off and rolled up their pants to dip their feet into the water which is a consistent 72 F year round from the natural spring. It was such a beautiful day outside. If it was hotter, we'd have brought swimsuits. :)

The restaurant is in the restored mill.
