I fear for my rights as a woman under this president and administration. One by one, I fear I will have nothing left of my rights as a woman or as a human being. The events that took place earlier today sadden and depress me, and to say the least, I am mad, mad, mad. I realize some people may agree with what was done, therefore disagreeing with me, and I can only respect their personal feelings as I hope they would respect mine.

I don't know.... If the baby already has a skull developed, isn't it a bit too late for an abortion?? Maybe I'm wrong in how developed they say the babies are, but the whole puncturing the skull thing sounds really disturbing.

Sorry for the rant...

This "partial birth abortion ban" doesn't take into effect the health of the woman, which is why Clinton vetoed it. More than once. It is also said to contain very vague language that will no doubt aid Bush in his agenda to completely outlaw abortion. While that porcedure for late term abortion is disturbing, it is possible that it might save the mother's life. If you have little or no regard or stipulations/clauses in there for the mother or her health, what you end up risking is a motherless child to save the life of the child instead of the mother in many cases. Something like this is rare and I would think the mother or family should have more say in it than big brother does.

What bothers me most about this, is that this is a step into criminalizing all legal and safe abortions as part of his agenda. And while he may say he won't pursue it further for political resons, I can't put my faith or trust in him. I get a mailer daily, called "The Daily Mislead" which is essentially something Bush has said, and how it is a false statement, lie or what have you. In addition, Bush has been taking his "prachings" on this out of the country where he really has no business doing so.

My position is pretty simple: if you don't like abortions, don't have them and educate people the best you can on safe sex...obviously abortions are not a replacement for birth control, but don't take the right from me to make decisions about my future involving my reproductive organs. And I certainly don't want a right wing consevative man (http://atrios.blogspot.com/) making decisions for me about my body. And don't say it is bad because god says it is murder, because you're only looking at the god of one faith, and that particular faith's views on it. Other religions have different takes on when a baby is considered alive and whether abortion is really murder.

I really could go on. I did not mean for this rant to go on so long, nor did I intend to debate with anyone on their views of abortion. Sorry. I did not intend to scold you or offend you or anyone...but women's rights, including reproductive, are important to me. I'm going to shut up now. :/

Rant on, it's no problem.
I actually see your point.
Personally, I don't think religion should have anything to do with it at all, but that's Bush for ya.
I hope their "God" prevents Bush from being allowed another presidential term.

In retrospect, there is a lot of tension out there, and many people are looking to overturn it. Hopefully it won't go any further. I can only hope we get a new president next year before things really get bad.

Actually, this law DOES allow for partial birth abortions if the mother has a serious heatlh risk. Of course, the Democratic party likes to try to leave this fact out so they can make Bush out to be some right-winged religious fanatic (when actually he's one of the most moderate presidents we've ever had).
Also, no Republican administration would try to outlaw 1st trimester abortions. Firt, abortion is supported by 75% of the voting population, and second, the GOP recognizes the benefits of abortion vs. welfare. The GOP doesn't believe in spending tax dollars on handouts- so when faced with the lesser of two evils.....
Just my 2 cents.

replying to the person who claims that the law allows for final-trimester abortions if the mother's life is at risk: no it doesn't. You haven't read the law. I have. This is why it's going to be tossed out on it's ear in court.

Typical anti-choice response: accuse without substantiation, judge without facts. If George Bush is a moderate, I'm a french poodle. I've been alive since the Kennedy administration, and I know what I'm talking about: there are Republicans, and there are Wingnuts. Dumbya is a wingnut, with the accent on NUT. He and his adminstration's disconnect from reality is just breathtaking to behold -- so much so that even his OWN defense secretary (and fellow wingnut) Rumsfeld questions it.

The GOP doesn't believe in spending tax dollars on handouts, that's certainly true -- they really don't have any to give after handing it all to their fat-cat special-interest friends like Halliburton in the form of sweetheart no-bid contracts and tax cuts that give millionaires like Dick Cheney an $83,000 refund he otherwise wouldn't have gotten.

I hope someday you'll realise that Faux News HAS BEEN LYING TO YOU.

I love you too! How realistic is that trip idea?

Quite possibly, pretty darned realistic. It's not so much "if" but "when," and although "when" is complicated by the upcoming holiday season, it may be before the end of the year. I'm in Cardiff right now(until Wednesday) doing some filming. I'll talk to Kurt about it when I get home and give you more information once I have it :)
