Saturday morning was not a morning to sleep in...no no no. We got up about 7am or so and left the apartment close to 8 am. Had a quick brekkie at McDonald's and was on the road by 8:30. The drive down to south Florida was nice enough, especially since we had rented a nice car and had some good music to listen to...we listened to some of his old radio shows converted over to cd. It was fun listening to them. Oh memories! :)
We were going to meet some Doctor Who actors and writers who had just come back from a week long sci-fi cruise (coordinated by a friend of ours), and Chas was asked to interview them for radio and video spots which is why we were going there. Instead of meeting at the radio station as originally planned, we got a call to meet them at a nearby Cracker Barrel. Chas and I arrived a little early so we put in the reservation and just waited for them outside on a double rocking chair/sofa. The weather was very nice and it was relaxing with Chas rocking us. Just me and my huggy bear. We weren't waiting very long until we met up with the rest of our party. We met up with Nick Courtney, who played the Brigadier in many stories with many of the Doctors, and Wendy Padbury, who played Zoe Herriot, companion to the second Doctor. We also met with Barry Letts and Terrence Dicks (Barry and Terry, as Chas affectionately referred to them as) who were writers on the show. I think I had met Nick Courtney at Panopticon, in Coventry, 7 years ago when we were on our honeymoon. I may have also met Barry or Terry at another convention, but not so close like this. Wendy, Chas' first crush, was as cute as a button, just like she was on the show nearly 40 years ago. It was the first time meeting her for me, though Chas knows her well. She looked amazing for her age! A friend of ours, who had gone on the cruise, was also with them. We were originally going to pick her up from the bus station, but since we were there...
Anyhow, had a nice lunch at the restaurant. Nick absolutely loved the roast pork meal, and confessed as he finished his meal before anyone, that he is normally the last one to finish. He couldn't stop raving about it. As there was no alcohol served at the Cracker Barrel, we took them to The Blue Anchor*, a pub around the corner, so the men could have a pint. At noon. :)
After that, we made our way to the radio station and let them do there thing. I had nice chats with the guests and then got a little rest on the station's very soft and comfy leather couch while Chas was doing his thing.
From there, we split up to take the guests back to Miami so they could catch their flights home. Our navigator, Joey, sat in the front seat to direct Chas where to go, while Wendy, Julia (our friend), and I sat in the backseat...lucky we are all petite women. :) Following that, we went to grab a quick bite for dinner, and then back to the radio station so Joey could pick up his truck and go home.
We finally began making our way home around 8pm or so. I moved to the front seat while Julia crashed in the back seat...she'd had a late night before debarking the ship that morning. It was a nice drive back, with the exception of the noxious smell of the synthetic orange scent combined with the smell from the landfills (which it was tying to cover up) while driving through Fort Pierce on the turnpike. The moon was gorgeous though...big, round and glowing orange and yellow, and we actually saw 3 deer standing by the side of the road. That was neat. Got to see a lot more stars too. It was pretty. :) Was very tired going back, but made extra efforts to stay awake to keep my huggy bear company while he was driving. As it turns out, we would have made it back in town 10 minutes before Julia's bus would have come in if she had not come home with us. She may have lost the money by not taking the bus, but I know that she had a much better time spending the afternoon with us than at the bus station for several hours until it left, and in a hot and crowded bus for 6 hours. We ended up getting in around 11:30pm and we just all crashed; we decided to bring Julia home the next morning.
Sunday was another early morning, but not as early as Saturday, because we had to bring Julia home. After that, we went to visit my grandad, then over to our friend's house for Chas to fix their computer. We had to leave early enough for us to get across town to see the extended play of The Two Towers. So much extra footage, more noticeable than the extra footage from Fellowship of the Ring. Looking forward to Return of the King.
Well, that is about all for the weekend. Gotta run for now. My tummy is hungry and my lunch awaits me.
*We got a few pictures, so I might be able to post them soon.
