I am eating Osem "Bissili" snacks falafel flavor. Yummy!!! Of course if you don't like falafel, you won't like these, but if you haven't eaten falafel before, but like hummus (which is damn close to falafel in a lot of ways taste-wise), you'd probably like this stuff. The had the snack sized bag in the discount carts at the front of Albertson's and it was $0.49 to buy. It is reminding me of this Middle Eastern place we went to last year while we were in Los Angeles. Little over a week to go. Yay!!!
We have been changing our shopping habits over the last few weeks and we have been "buying blue" more lately. It would be interesting to see how our buying trends have changed based on our bank statements. Which reminds me, I have to balance my checkbook. I have purchased a few things in the last few days so I need to know how much I have left. I got some things from Old Navy that were on sale with the money I earned "saving the day" for our friend yesterday. She actually told Chas to give me $20 from what she paid him for his services. Cuz I am a genius. :) And Old Navy is blue...hoorah! And we had breakfast out yesterday, and I bought groceries, mostly from Whole Foods in effort to buy blue and to improve our eating habits. I need to get dinner started soon, after I do some dishes, after I finish posting.
Oh, one last thing...our home phone is out. It was more important for me to go to the doctor and get medicine when I was sick than it was to pay the bill for the phone. Plus, we are a 2 cell phone house. It is also incentive for us to get on the ball with the VoIP phone system like we have been wanting. And to tell solicitors to fuck off and leave us alone. So call us by cell until further notice, for those that have it. For those that don't but want it, email me.
Guess I should balance my checkbook and do some dishes.

3 February 2005 23:24I have been lacking in my posting of late. I seem to be more focused on reading everyone else's journals instead of paying attention to mine. So lemme see what I can write about.
Now that Chas is the arts editor of the East Orlando Sun, a newspaper for east Orlando folk, I have been slightly more cultural and busy, and will continue for a while. We recently saw a play called Trapezium, a play written in Shakespeare's iambic pentameter, but a comic tale based on Tristan and Isolde (which old Willie and others ripped off). While I was sick, I missed UCF's showing of Lysistrata, one of my favorite Greek plays. We did the whole 110 hour marathon, though today we learned that world record was actually 120 hours. But he broke the US record and raised $17,000 in the process. And last night we went to DMAC (Downtown Media Arts Center) for Dig, a movie chronicling the Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. Wha??? I think it was a minor self produced kinda thing. It was my first visit to DMAC. There was this hot chick in dreads there. :P No, serious, she was really beautiful.
Work is work. I had a sort of revelation as I was leaving today. They have banned the smokers from the front entrance to the other side of the parking lot where the walkway leading back further into the lot is. I have realized that this is not a good idea. I don't like having to walk by a large mass of smoke, or to hold my breath to walk by. I'd rather that they designate the smoking area to the sides of the entrance (where many do sneak away to smoke). I don't smoke myself, though I have smoked my share of things in the past. I mean, not to put down smokers or anything...they can do as they please (it's not like people that smoke DON'T know the risks)...but I don't like my path being blocked by a mass of smoke. Ack.
Well, LA in slightly less than 2 weeks. Yay!
I guess I ought to go now.

We never made it to Gasparilla, for a few reasons, but it is ok because Chas had forgotten the eye exam he had scheduled then. And so we went. And I found myself a new pair of glasses. I mean, after we buy Chas his new ones, but I would like a spare pair, and some that aren't as cutesy childish as the ones I have now. Don't get me wrong...I like my current glasses...it took a long time to find them (one of the reasons I am so up on the pair I found) but they are Sesame Street frames with little bows, hearts and flowers on the sides (not very visible) and they are pinkish metallic not quite gold and not silver either. Granted, the pair I found are FAO Schwartz. I can't help being small, and well, kids glasses fit me better. The new glasses have a darker frame, they list it as copper. It is matte like the ones I have now, and the shape is different...less rounded and more square. I think they suit my face and hair color, and make me look a little older, or maybe more sophisticated than my current ones. Since I don't have the money to put half down ($75), we will have to wait, but the store said they would put them on hold for me, and there is a note to call me before they put them on the shelf again. This should give us some time to get Chas his glasses, and get mine ordered.
( the glasses... )

We ordered our tickets for our trip to LA next month earlier this evening. We were supposed to order them last weekend, but we didn't. We still need our tickets to the con, but we should be able to get them in the next week. It makes me happy knowing that very soon I will be seeing my pals, my LA Crew! :P

24 January 2005 23:36Wow. Some people are just plain mean. I am seeing lj drama in a few of my communities. I do not like being called a retard by someone who doesn't even know me. At least I have the brains to call it quits without stooping to their level. There is no point arguing with someone who just likes to argue. Ya know?

23 January 2005 14:54I am eating poppyseed cake from last night's dinner at Polonia. Mmmm. I probably shouldn't be eating it because there is dairy in it and I am getting sick again. It was like my body took a 3 day hiatus from feeling bad...long enough for me to help with the radio station and have my hair appointment yesterday. Now all is said and done, I am all stuffy and have clear signs of a sinus infection again. I hope this doesn't affect me by next Saturday though. Gasparilla is next weekend in Tampa, and my brother has *the pad with the view* for the pirate ships in the bay, and the parade down below on Bayshore Boulevard. We missed it last year, so I don't want to miss it this year.
I think I am going to do something else now. I am not sure what yet though.
Oh, and it is supposed to get to 32 tonight. We are actually getting colder than Vancouver and Victoria today, though they had this weather a few weeks ago. Brr for us in any case.

22 January 2005 00:51Well, Dave made it to 11pm and there were masses of people there waiting for the end. Chas, Glitter, and Maggie (who is another dj there) were there. By the end of the marathon, over $16,000 was pledged. So even if there was a snafu with Guinness, which I hope there isn't, the station still came out winners. My best wishes go to Dave in hopes of a speedy recovery to normal life.

21 January 2005 18:47Last night I participated in history in the making. Our local college radio station is having a pledge drive, but not any ordinary pledge drive. Dave Plotkin, a dj at the station, is attempting to break the Guinness Book of World Records by staying on the air for 110 hours straight. Last night I was record taker for a few hours (because there are strict timing rules). It started Monday morning, but actually, as of almost an hour ago, he tied the world record of 105 hours. Now, the whole broadcast has to be nitpicked by Guinness for it to be "official" as there were a number of rules to follow, but for the time being, he broke it. :)
(BTW, they had raised over $5000 for the studio as of last night. The funds are going to help the station update and allow a streaming access via www)

21 January 2005 00:03A meme that's been going around forever, but I've negleted it. However since I am bored, I've stolen it from
katykate tonight. Perhaps it will prompt me to update my interests list, perhaps not...anyway:
Go to my user info, look at my interests, and if you have any questions about anything on it, ask away!

Ironic that Leo is last and I am technically a Leo. I am a Leo/Virgo cusp and the Virgo *does* rank high on the list.
Food experiment
19 January 2005 22:14I just used my Pampered Chef Asian Seasoning in my tuna salad, and it is yummy. I used a big spoons worth of mayo, and used *probably* about a tablespoon or so of the seasoning. I just sprinkled it and tasted til it was good for me. I started with less originally. The spices are making me (and my sinuses) feel better, though the mayo is probably not the best for my throat with it being all sticky like.
I am sick. I knew it was going to happen yesterday when the throat was getting sore, but hadn't closed up yet. It is probably allergies and related to the sudden weather changes. Ugh. And now I will probably have to cancel on my mom this weekend because I am the one sick. And the next two weekends are out too. But I really want good ole Polish food and a few rounds of Scrabble. That stuff will surely make me feel better. Not sure if I will feel alright then, and not sure if I will be able to go through with my hair consultation...if the sinuses and potential cough are under control I don't see why not, but being stuffy and leaning your head back to get it washed isn't good (though the head massage of the shampoo may just make up for it) and moving/jerking your head while it is being cut isn't such a smart idea either.
I think I am going to have a hot shower and then go to Chamberlins for some food. I will probably get a spiru-tein drink mix because it hurt lots yesterday trying to swallow my vitamins. And I might get some soup and some extra water and tea.
Well, I should go and maybe lie down for a little while longer.

Villagers furious with Christian Missionaries
Samanthapettai, Jan 16 (ANI): Rage and fury has gripped this tsunami-hit tiny Hindu village in India's southern Tamil Nadu after a group of Christian missionaries allegedly refused them aid for not agreeing to follow their religion.
Samanthapettai, near the temple town of Madurai, faced near devastation on the December 26 when massive tidal waves wiped it clean of homes and lives.
Most of the 200 people here are homeless or displaced , battling to rebuild lives and locating lost family members besides facing risks of epidemic, disease and trauma.
Jubilant at seeing the relief trucks loaded with food, clothes and the much-needed medicines the villagers, many of who have not had a square meal in days, were shocked when the nuns asked them to convert before distributing biscuits and water.
Heated arguments broke out as the locals forcibly tried to stop the relief trucks from leaving. The missionaries, who rushed into their cars on seeing television reporters and the cameras refusing to comment on the incident and managed to leave the village.
Disappointed and shocked into disbelief the hapless villagers still await aid.
Many NGOs (volunteer groups) are extending help to us but there in our village the NGO, which was till now helping us is now asking us to follow the Christian religion. We are staunch followers of Hindu religion and refused their request. And after that these people with their aid materials are leaving the
village without distributing that to us," Rajni Kumar, a villager said.
The incident is an exception to concerted charity in a catastrophe that has left no one untouched.(ANI)

13 January 2005 23:01Training for Midwest has been a bitch this week. I like the database for our old area, Southeast, better. Though the new system has a few bonuses, but not enough that I think it is better. At least not now. Maybe I will get used to it. But what a relief that I was able to get into the 8am-4:30pm class this week, instead of the 5pm-1am class next week. I hope I get a schedule for next week. So far there is nothing in the system, probably because of the training I was supposed to be in next week.
Today I met
emevol (and baby Kevin) on Park Avenue for the first time. We learned how small a world it really is. Another connection in the Alchemy ring. Wow. We had chai at Starbucks and chatted, but I had to go to the mac user group meeting. The things I do for love....
I also wanted to welcome the newest person to my friends list,
lifeisacabaret. So now I have Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and now British Columbia covered for my Canadian friends. Woo hoo baby!
Oh, and yeah, so I have the appointment for my hair consultation to consider chopping it. It is a big decision for me, but one I have to be happy with in the end. Gotta go wash my hair or something. :P

The East Orlando Sun, the paper Chas just started writing for, just published its first weekly edition with him in it. It was monthly, and now it is weekly. It focuses more on the stuff out by UCF on the other side of town. Whee! Ok, so I gotta read his stuff now. Not like I don't already know how brilliant it will be. :P
