28 August 2004 13:24I never thought I would see this, but the iTunes Music store has a video for Nick Drake! It is for the song "River Man", and is really more a collection of black and white photos, with some film trickery, and a few added noises or background sounds. Still, it is nice to see that there are people out there that are fans and who want to create something like this for other fans.

26 August 2004 22:24Maybe it is just me, but something just seems wrong, when at a memorial service for someone a) the room is half filled by that person's former co-workers and b) the only person with a eulogy is the main office manager. I bring this up as this happened to me today. On Tuesday I learned a co-worker from my first account, Sunbeam, had died over the weekend. Yesterday I got the details, and they aren't pretty. I always found it unusual that she frequently had broken body parts (arms, legs), but never did I suspect abuse at home. We were only on the same account for a short while and never got to know her more personally or intimately. But she always smiled and said "hi" when we would run into each other and so forth. She always seemed happy, so suicide seems like it would have been the last thing on her mind. Maybe it *was* the last thing she could do to escape. Or was this additional abuse from the 2nd husband and his sons? Who knows? But what I do know is that the family said absolutely nothing about her on her behalf. To me, it seems fishy for the husband not to say something, almost like saying "I am guilty", even if it is to thank everyone who could come to the service. The real son did not say anything either (although I was under the impression he did not know about the abuse), and no family member uttered a peep on her behalf. How wrong is it for employees to have more to say about someone they knew for 5 years, than family that knew her much longer? It just irks me. Poor Jan. At least she died on my birthday so I will always have a reminder of her.
On the plus side, we saw a rainbow on the way to the service. It's odd...ever since the hurricane, it seems like there is a rainbow each time it rains. Like mother nature is saying sorry or something. All I can say is that I have seen more rainbows in the last week and a half than I have seen all year. And I like it...they are pretty and uplifting, saying that the rain is over, and to enjoy the pretty colors.
Lately I feel like I have had an Eastern European grandma up my butt to cook some "old country" food. I have been browsing the Eastern European food section of my "Sundays at Moosewood" cookbook. And now I want to cook some traditional food. I shouldn't be thinking of food at this hour. Already I am trying to forget about the banana pudding ice cream in the freezer...which I am obviously not doing a good enough job because I just thought about it to write this part of the post.
I better get going, and spend time with Chas. I love him so much. :)

18 August 2004 08:10I feel I have been a tad of a dork. I did not put it all together, or perhaps I did but was in denial about the whole thing. My comments were probably a tad insensitive with my gripe about no power when you have lost your home and many belongings, including your car. I think I did refuse to believe that that happened here. Thinking, "No, this isn't really for her building. It is not condemned. That didn't happen here. I am just jumping to conclusions," but it really happened. It is something I would have expected on the west coast where Charley hit the hardest. But not here. Except it did. And I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I give my full report of our experience with Hurricane Charley later, when I have my own computer and sufficient time to tell the story.
The long comes later when I am at home and have more time to write the details. But the basics. I am typing this from my parent's house since they have power. We have officially had no power for over 24 hours now, and they say it may be 3-5 days. The Winter Park Village shopping center has power, and they are within walking distance, but not us.
Lots of down lines, trees, signs, and other debris. Other than no power, we are ok, and will get through this together.
More later, and hopefully some pictures too.
Love you guys!

Still waiting...
13 August 2004 19:37...like the lobster in the tank at the restaurant. Right now it seems like the lobster won't be dinner, but the restaurant is still open, and things may change before the night is over. At any time.
Another bit of rain with a bit of wind passed through not too long ago. Still kinda wimpy compared to our normal summer rain, but the wind was slightly more than usual. I just saw a video, on the news, of I-4 (our main interstate for you out-of-towners) with only 3 cars on it. You never see that! A couple of sirens have gone by occasionally. Fire? Police? Ambulance? Dunno really.
Guess we'll have to continue waiting...
...and in the meantime, I am going to enjoy my Thai rice noodles.
Thanks for the chat tonight
lemonlies...it made my night! :)

So far, we are only getting rain, in amounts not unusual for us in the summer. It only recently started. Lots of projections are indicating that we will be having a bit of a rough night. Many people taking it very serious now as there are comparisons to Donna, a really bad hurricane that happened from 40 years ago in this area. Some say that it is not as serious as people are making it out, but never the less, preparations are in order here. Got my cell phone charging, found some candles, have some bottled water and dried goods, and I guess that is it. Hopefully this will be enough and things won't be bad. The waiting and watching the news is probably the worst part, if not the pressure. The barometric pressure, that is. My head has been in much pain all day. I think I should probably lie down soon.
William Shatner + Joe Jackson = a cover of Pulp's "Common People" ????
The funny thing is that it is so bad it is good, like a bad movie gone Mystied.

While dinner cooks.
9 August 2004 19:23Friday-
Aside from working, not much happened outside of giving Chas much grief about the time and the lack of food in our stomachs. See, I had to be up at 5am the next day for work, so I had to eat dinner earlier so I could go to bed earlier, and in turn get up earlier. But the time kept passing, and every minute kept dragging me into the night further and further. And I increasingly got more irritated. More than I really should have, but that is me. So...
Saturday-
Got up butt fuck early to go to work. Because of the events to occur later in the day, I had little choice but to go in before the sun rose. Yeah, I hate being up before the sun. the drive to work was pretty quiet though. I had made a little instant cappuccino at home and drank part of it at home, and the rest on the way and at work. That was a first. I don't like having to feel like I have to drink coffee to get going each day. I like drinking coffee as a casual or social thing, as opposed to an addictive thing. Work was monumentally slow until about 8am. I took my first call at 7:30...so I had an hour and a half to do nothing, and I could not use the internet. But there were some cool people to talk to and they got me laughing. Left later than I was scheduled due to a snafu, but I got home close to 4, and about a half hour later we were on our way west to Tampa. Why you ask? Because it was my brother's birthday celebration, though his birthday was on Monday the 2nd. I think I have mentioned this before. So, through traffic and rain, we got to his place and we hung out til the rain let up. We called the dogtrack to see if they'd be holding races, since that was the main part of the celebration. It is not called the "annual dog track trek" for nothin'. For the second time, Chas and I have engaged in the placing of money on dogs to win more money. It is not the sort of thing we do all the time, but once a year for this celebation. And with friends and family it is fun. Last year we came out ahead a few dollars at the end of the evening, but this year we were down a dollar or so. We were ahead for a while. Chas was pretty good at guessing, but he also placed safe bets. Still, at the end of it all, a night's entertainment for a few bucks? Not bad at all. Once again I was surprised by the diversity of the people there, and stunned at the number of kids running around. I made friends with one of his friends and even exchanged cell numbers to keep in touch. I was on my first Red Bull, so I was still going strong and we went to a bar downtown. About 1am I was getting tired, though the smoke was irritating my eyes. Oh to be in a bar in California! :p
Sunday-
We got up and had a lovely brunch at a place nearby called Mad Dogs adn Englishmen. I had smoked salmon spread on crackers and it was yummy. :) Headed over to the

3 August 2004 23:54Got the muffler fixed today, and a much lower cost than some places we got quotes from, but more than I wanted to pay, but I realized it was higher because I needed the connector pipe too. So that cost extra. So it was $278.36 with all the taxes and stuff as opposed to $400-600 other places quoted us. But there is still the problem with the car starting without pushing the gas. This problem in my old car was fixed by the new muffler, but it must be something else in this car now. They did say my fuel filter needs replacing which may be the culprit, and that it looked to be an original part...so I have a 15 year old fuel filter. I replaced the original distributor cap and wires earlier this year or late last year so there is no surprise there are original parts on the car still. Well, the car did only have 65,000 miles when I got it a few years ago from my aunt. It is obvious she never drove it much.
Oh well. It took a long time to fix the car, so I walked to my parent's place to visit with my dad since he has retired. It took me about 20-25 minutes. The thing about walking like that is that every step was progress toward the goal, and as I got closer, I swelled up with a little more pride that I was accomplishing this goal. I could have walked a straight path for most of the way, but the road was very busy, and as small as I am, I admit I feel self conscious and vulnerable when I am by myself. So I took the road that went behind the main road...it was a little it longer, but there were trees and it was quieter. A nicer walk indeed. My dad made me a sandwich for lunch and we chatted. He asked me what he could do with a pound of ground beef, and I gave a few options. Since they only have one car now, and my mom has it to go to work now, he could not get to the store, so here is what we did:
-Browned the pound of meat and drained.
-Sauteed half a large onion and half green bell pepper, coarsely chopped, with remaining fat from the pan.
-Added the meat back in.
-Added one can of diced tomato, one can of water, and half a jar Ragu sauce. This one had mushrooms.
-Add seasonings...salt and pepper and whatever.
-Brought to boil, then down to a simmer for a few hours, covered, periodically checking and stirring.
He said that it was still slightly runny, so I told him to simmer uncovered until the remaining liquid evaporates or thickens to his liking...about 20-30 minutes or so. They are having it for dinner tomorrow since they had plans tonight. He said it looked and smelled great. He tasted a bit too and liked it. So success too. I like it when improvisation works, though it was not total improvisation as this was a modified recipe I used for the meat sauce for my pastitsio. But that was improvisation originally. And had we had other ingredients, we could have added them too.
Well, it is passed my bedtime, so I need to get going.

I think I am going to eat all of the garlic shrimp voila! I just made. Muah ha ha!!! I will make the other for Chas if he ever gets up! :p
Tomorrow, tomorrow,tomorrow...yes, tomorrow...I am off work and I MUST look at fixing my muffler! It cannot go much longer. It rattles and is significantly louder than before, and now my car will not start unless I push the gas pedal...it stalls and won't turn over unless I rev it, and I can't help but think that is bad for my car. I know I have waited far too long, but it is time. It is also quite expensive as it only has one kind available. :(
Speaking of days off, I hope they fix my schedule at work. They have partially fixed it for this week, Instead of working 6-3, I can come in when I want, so I came in at 8:45 today. I like my new manager here a lot. Granted, I think getting off at 3pm is great, but being there at 6am is not. They couldn't do anything about my days off, so I work another Saturday, and it interferes with my plans to be in Tampa with my brother for his birthday bash, although his birthday is actually today. Happy Birthday little brother! I may very well have to work the 6-3 to be able to get out in time and over to Tampa in time for the bash. And I'm sure I will need some Red Bull or something by 10:00 or so. Haven't gotten the schedule for next week, and I admit I am a little scared. Aside from the schedule thing, work is going well. I am enjoying myself more, and I feel odd, because now I am in the position where *I* need the help, whereas in the past, I was the one *giving* the help. But everyone has been helpful so far, and things are going smoothly it seems. Sure, there are dumb people out there, and they are bound to call someone, so it might as well be me. Right? I have my war stories from my other accounts and now I have them for this account. It makes me feel warm and tingly inside now.
Went to Lesley and Jared's housewarming party Saturday after leaving work half a day early. But Chas got stuck on a job and couldn't get me for over an hour, and since I used half a day of UTO (unpaid time off) which is only available in half or whole day increments so I could not go back upstairs and take more calls. Is is ok, since I was able to take a big chunk out of "Byzantium!" (that Keith Topping is amazing, he is!) while waiting. Once we got to the party things were peachy. We met an old friend of ours that we know from
glittergrrl69. Chas met one of his co-workers from over 10 years ago! Interestingly enough, I began talking to his wife without even knowing it. She reminds me a lot of Aurora Liz (AL). I even showed her the little flyer that AL was on to this person, and she agreed there *was* a striking similarity! Welcome
inannamaiya...glad to have you here.
Anyhow, what else? What else? Ok, this is something else my mom sent me.

NEWSWEEK reports that President Bush, appearing before a right-to-life rally in Tampa, Florida on June 17, stated: "We must always remember that all human beings begin life as a feces. A feces is a living being in the eyes of God, who has endowed that feces with all of the rights and God-given blessings of any other human being." The audience listened in disbelief as the President repeated his error at least a dozen times, before realizing that he had used the word 'feces" when he meant to say "fetus."
"Unglaublich, uncroyable, unbelievable," say Europeans, or something else sarcastic depending upon their nationality. The malapropisms of this President would be amusing if they weren't so pathetic. This instance of Presidential language mangling really takes the cake. I pray this bumbling, talking head does not win in November.
You just can't make this stuff up! :p
EDIT: My mom *does* have a tendency to spread around false emails like so many of us (but I still love her), and I should have checked with snopes.com first to disprove another email forward, but I didn't, and it is false. Anyhow, true or not, this is still funny. My brain even created a false memory of hearing him say this.
