Hey [livejournal.com profile] shyystarr??!! You up for a mocha frappuccino any time soon? We have a new Starbucks to go to...Tuskawilla and Red Bug...to visit [livejournal.com profile] lemonlies!!! Yes, she broke the chains of Convergys, something I don't have the courage to do. Anyhow. We shall have her make coffee beverages for us, and we shall be nice, good, and courteous customers. You can stick with the mocha, but I will stay with caramel. I wish they made amaretto or hazelnut frappuccinos. :)

Oh, well. Gotta go wake up huggy bear now. We have laundry to do, so we can begin to pack for our journey westward next week.

I've just spent the last few hours with my parents at synagogue. I am not a religious person, but my mom is, so I do things for her. Tonight was Sisterhood Shabat, and the service was led by members of Sisterhood. There were many mother/daughters leading prayers, and I was there to support my mom, because as I have said before, I love her and she is the best mom to me. This was important to her, and made her happy, thus it made me happy in return. We sang a prayer that I haven't sung in years, yet once she gave me a quick refresher, it all came back, and now it is on its way back in its little storage somewhere in my brain.

As for now...Thee Monarchy V and the ever-so-hip Delusionaires at the Copper Rocket. off we go. Might I dabble in some amaretto goodness? I might...

So, one of the yahoo groups I am in is Cocteau Twins Burls Forever. It is a pretty slow list, and the only regular posting is from this person who posts playlists from a radio station. I don't really understand why the poster posts it. Is it just to show when CT songs appear? Not every list has a CT track, so I don't think this is the case. Is the poster the dj? Is the poster offering copies to members on the list? I don't know. More than a few people have asked, yet no one has gotten an answer. While I know a few groups here and there on the list, there are many I don't know (I am so behind in gothic/industrial music these days), so I personally wouldn't mind copies to boost and expand my knowledge a bit. Anyhow, here are a few examples. )

I mean, these are the 3 most recent posts to the group from this user. Why do they post this? It is driving me, and a few of the users crazy. What is more frustraing is that the poster has not commented or replied when questioned. Grrr.

A little back story may be necessary, so let me begin. Not too long ago, [livejournal.com profile] being_homeless made this post about [livejournal.com profile] i_wont_give_up, a 23 year old girl with breast cancer. I immediately added her, and at the same time I also forwarded the information to my mom about her. She immediately wanted to know how to contact her. Since my mom is not on LJ, she has been emailing her instead, and sharing information about her experiences and things, even though there is an age gap. Today, I read this post and it made me so happy I started getting teary eyed and stuff. My mom is the best mom in the world!! She makes me so proud to be her daughter. Oh yeah, did I mention she got a new job? Yeah, and she absolutely loves it. She is working in mental health facility for youths, as a clinical liaison of sorts, and doing lots of little things. And they seem to be cool with her cancer and stuff. I haven't seen my mom this happy and healthy in a long time.

Well, that's all for now.

Why won't my hiccups go away....and stay away?!!! I have had four bouts of hiccups in the last 4 or 5 hours. I fix it and they come back. Grr. And now the drinking upside-down isn't working. Bah!

Ok, so dinner flopped, as Chas had a client to see, so he will get dinner on his own. Meanwhile, I had a grilled cheese sandwich. I really wish I could have done it "Good Eats" style but I lack the 2 cast iron pans required for his method. I am so tempted to buy the 2 cast iron pans just to try to recreate the way Alton did it on the show. With an overwhelming 2 votes, I will be making the lamb curry tomorrow night for dinner, unless in the next 24 hours something else gets more votes.

Speaking of Good Eats, I am frustrated. I found a Good Eats FAQ website that had the theme song available for cell phone ring tones. They had one for Nokia too, my brand of phone. Hooray! The theme song is just beepy and boopy enough for my little monophonic phone. So, I tried to email it to myself like he said in the FAQ, and I got the text message, but I was unable to do anything with it after that. I was scared of using the composer in my phone, as I did not want to erase TORGO, loving created just for me. But I spoke with [livejournal.com profile] pluralist_baby and she told me how to do it without erasing the original composed tune; a way for me to let it override one of the other downloaded tunes. She has the same model I do, and she had more than one composed tune, even though the manual says you can only compose one at a time. So I got the nerve yesterday, while waiting in the car for Chas, to try to program it myself, and hope for the best. And you know what? while looking at the manual and the buttons on the phone, there is no way that code was right for my phone. I mean, I like all my current tones, but I really wanted this one. And now I can't have it. Poopie! Poopie! Poopie! :(

I guess I will oggle cookware and such.

[Poll #242681]

I might make some baby carrots to go with any of the above options if I can determine if they are ours or Sean's, and if they're not ours, whether we can use them.

I feel like this day is never going to end. I just want to be home. I want to curl up in a little ball and go to sleep. And when I wake up, I want it to be closer to my vacation, say like sometime next week. I admit that I feel kinda freaked out that we are flying out on Friday the 13th though, but I'm sure it will be ok. Not so secretly counting the days...

It was really foggy out this morning. In fact, there's still a bit of it lingering about here.

Head still hurts and is buzzing, stomach still upset. Feeling blah.

I'm really tired. Would rather be back in bed with my huggy bear. :(

Oh how I love Alton Brown! I just read his recent blog entry for today on his rant and raves page. This post is brilliant if only two small paragraphs. His other posts, like "It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World" about Mad Cow Disease, and the subsequent posts regarding it (including the bad poetry) are not to be missed either.

Yeah, I am becoming a major Good Eats fan lately. My cell phone may even have the Good Eats theme song on it soon, hopefully without destroying the beauty that is "Torgo." I am scared I am going to lose it, but I got advice how to do it without losing a previously customized ring tone. Fingers crossed.

Well, I must get back to my Good Eats mailer and catch up!

Did anyone attend the LJ Meetup for your area on Tuesday night? I had thought of going to the one here, but decided against it in the end. It wasn't too far, but I would have liked a venue closer. I might have gone then.

Also, I want to pick apart a commercial I saw at lunch today. The scenario: A woman in a towel standing on a scale in bathroom. She is uneasy not because she is in the towel, but because she is on the scale. The announcer mentions something about weight and she says "I eat Special K" and the announcer says something like "more people have lost weight eating Total", and so the lady switches. But here is the thing. The ad points out that Total has 100% calcium compared to other cereals, but what does that have to do with weight loss? I don't understand. There has to be something other than that. Or it is just a poorly created commercial feeding on the stupidity and gullibility of the public at large? Likely it is the latter.

So, my meeting with [livejournal.com profile] groan fizzled out yesterday. I knew he was going to be busy in the morning, so we had planned to get together in the afternoon or evening. Wasn't too sure what was going to happen, but sometimes playing things by ear, and making impromptu choices make for the best times. :) But the time kept passing and no word. I did eventually get a call from him and apparently the meeting from the morning lasted until nearly 4pm. In addition, there was another one at 6pm. And the conference had not yet begun! Poor jet lagged Viv, in meetings all day after he'd just arrived late the previous evening! Well, that's business for you. Not to mention he learned by an lj post that his cat Ruby died and he was not there for it. My feelings go out to him. But, it was still neat talking to him over the phone for a few minutes. I now have a voice I can put with the pictures from his website, and his lj posts. And he for me. So yeah, that was neat. He reassured me that he is over here (Orlando and Tampa) frequently so there will be other times to try to meet. Well, no biggie, we will meet up another time. Until then...

This is for you, [livejournal.com profile] morgaine_nicely (and anyone else who has issues/concerns with the boom of the Atkins Diet/Lifestyle).

So here is my low carb diet thought of the day: If carbohydrates are so bad, and are the culprit to what is making Americans so fat, and causing various health issues, why does it not seem to affect Asian populations whose diets are plentiful in rice and noodles?

Yesterday was a casual day. I went to visit my sister in law at work, a local salon where she does nails. I went to visit so one of the stylists could give me info on my hair and how to go about dying it this time. But I got there just as the beauty supply store a few doors down from them closed. So I took the information and Chas and I went in search of food before visiting my grandad. We stopped at Bubbalou's Bodacious BBQ. I had a kids meal and it was almost perfect for me. I'd have liked to see them add a wing to the basket for just a little more meat. The leg with the garlicky texas toast and fries was slightly puny; the wing would have made it more balanced. Afterward, we carried on and visited my grandad. We had a fairly long conversation with him, compared to the normal visits. We ran a few errands, including a trip to a different beauty supply store to get some dye, and came home for a few hours. I dyed my hair during that time, and a little while later we went to my parent's place.

We had such a nice time with my parents last night, though we got off to a late start. A little miscommunication of when to go over, but nothing major. We went over for dinner which was spanikopita (spinach pie), and as I suspected, my mom did not make it herself. In fact, it was from Coscto. But that was fine, because it was still tasty, even if it could have had more feta in it in my opinion. And maybe a few crunchy pine nuts too. Mmmm. I am making myself hungry all over again just thinking about it.

After dinner and dessert, and struggling with technology, we watched a dvd we had brought with us. I remember Chas said, as we we getting ready to leave, that he wished the dvds he had ordered had arrived so we could bring them with us. Then he remembered he had not yet gotten the mail from the day, so he went out and checked it, and as fate would have it, there was the amazon.com box with the 2 dvds (Spellbound and Winged Migration). We knew Winged Migration would put my dad to sleep, but we brought it anyway and let them choose what to watch. They picked Spellbound as we suspected they would, and they loved it. And yeah, my dad did fall asleep, but only for a few minutes near the end, I think. Who would have thought a film about the National Spelling Bee would be so engaging? But it was! My dad wanted to see just a little of Winged Migration, just to get the feel for it, so we watched about 15 minutes or so of that. Then we left.

As for today, I was supposed to go out with [livejournal.com profile] glittergrrl69 shopping this morning (before getting together with [livejournal.com profile] groan), but plans had to change and we aren't going. I guess that is for the best anyhow, because I am so full from brekkie! :) I made scrambled eggs with the last bit of smoked salmon we had and some crumpets. Way too much for my lil tummy, but oh so tasty and yummy!

I think I am going to go back to bed for a little bit and snuggle up with my huggy bear until Viv calls or whatever. Yeah, that's what I will do. :)

Tears for Fears wants to rule world again
By Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY

Tears for Fears, disbanded since 1990, embarks on a new beginning with Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, due April 6 on Arista. The album, a melodic pop collection, came together after Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith tested the waters of a reunion by collaborating on single Closest Thing to Heaven. The song, completed in one day, goes to radio Monday.

Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal
hope to make listeners
fall head over heels again.

At its peak, the British band topped the singles chart with Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World, both from 1985's Songs From the Big Chair, a No. 1 album that sold 5 million copies. Soon after 1989's The Seeds of Love, Smith quit to escape the pressure-cooker of pop success. He later made a solo album, hosted MTV programs, started a radio show and formed Mayfield with songwriter Charlton Pettus. Orzabal released three albums under the Tears banner and a solo debut.

The songwriting duo plans a tour but isn't sure yet if Happy Ending marks a fresh page or a final chapter in the Tears for Fears saga.

It is definitely back to the "Seeds of Love" era Beatles-influenced sound for this song. I don't know if it will be a hit to the young kids these days and their mainstream music, but I hope it does well for them in whichever market they sell to. It might sell well to the Radiohead/train market since it is a slower song. I guess only time wil tell. For those interested, you can hear the single on the Arista website. To own a legit copy, you can get it for 99 cents at the iTunes Music store (which can now be used on computers with Windows 2000 and XP; it's not just for Macs anymore) and allegedly at www.mycokemusic.com for the same price. I could not get this site to work though.

A while back, a friend of ours, Shaun, who runs a Doctor Who convention in LA (the one we are going to in a few weeks) as well as an excellent companion website called Outpost Gallifrey, put a small Howard Dean for America "sticker" on the bottom of the website's homepage. Good for him! However, he has gotten some flack for it by some people. One of those people is one of our mutual friends. He says it has no place there, especially in relations to the BBC or something silly like that. Chas explained that it is Shaun's personal website and he can put whatever he likes there. They debated about this for a while and I don't know if he is any better about it now than he was back then, but he sent Chas an email with a little humor about it all. Chas forwarded it to me, plus his answer back to our friend.
