I have a 3 day weekend! Then I work for 1 day, and then I have 8 more days in a row off! With 2 guests in town, at roughly the same time, I ought to be able to spread the love a bit...
adaneth is already here, and we're working on getting together, and
octophonic will be here Tuesday night for a few days, then we head up to Niceville, in the panhandle, to visit with his parents for a few days, then back in town for a few days with
adaneth before I head back to work. Will be a busy week and a half, but it ought to be a load of fun in any case. :)
I saw a documentary on Vancouver and Victoria tonight. Well, I say documentary, but it was really a travel show that featured the two cities. They touched on a lot of the basic stuff, ya know, for tourists and such, but it was a travel program, hosted by a rather bland host, so no high hopes there. Anyhow, the host pronounced two popular names two different ways, so I wanted to ask my BC Fan Club what the deal was. So, on the pronunciation of the first vowel in each name...
1) Robson-major street downtown...is it "robe" like "bath robe" or "rob" like "I want to rob a bank" or does it not really matter?
2)Burrard-as in the inlet, and the bridge, and the street, and probably other things I don't know of...is the "burr" like in rhyming with "purr" or rather like "pure" or does it not matter here either?
Ok, just curious. I have said Robson the latter way, like "rob a bank" and Burrard like rhyming with "purr" and did not think I had said either incorrectly.
On another level, I wanted to invite ALL of my Canadian friends to comment on this next part, so they should choose to.
What is the general impression of Stephen Harper, now that he has had a little time as PM? I haven't really seen much opinion poll, but I have not looked too hard either. Plus, not all opinion polls are trustworthy these days.
Ok, well, bedtime for this wee lass.

Birthday thoughts
20 August 2006 12:47I can't believe how soon my birthday will be here. It seemed like weeks away just the other day, and now, it is just days away. I don't have a single thing planned now. We might do something tonight, or maybe next weekend to celebrate, as I work on my birthday this year. I am thinking of going out for paella, but nothing is set in stone, and somehow I am ok with that. Maybe I am at that turning point where birthdays start to have less and less meaning or importance. Maybe just a little bit.
I just got an email from Livejournal with the subject of "Paid Account" and I thought to myself it must be that time again to renew it.
( But no... )
So wow. I feel very touched by this kind act. I don't think that this could have come at a better time, as I have been a little down lately. I have been having all sorts of thoughts and emotions, and ups and downs, and seeing this in my inbox was like getting a hug from 3000 miles away, saying, "Hey, you're alright. Everything's ok. I am here." And that feels wonderful.

17 August 2006 01:43ESG/EST interview was yesterday. Don't know how it went, other than we all laughed a bit, but that is how the 2 guys interviewing me are. So, that was nice at least. I was still nervous. We'll see by Monday at the latest. It would be a good thing for learning and doing something different, but the schedule would suck since I wouldn't have weekends off, and the days would be split. But is it worth it? Either way, I win. :)
Butter Poll
11 August 2006 01:10Over my vacation, there was a discussion about the use of butter vs margerine, for health and taste, and so forth, so having my own beliefs challenged, I went online to see for myself. The general consensus is that butter is more natural but full of fat and cholesterol but that margerine can have trans fats which are bad, but that there are some that are trans fat free, and so the consensus for which is healthier tends to lean towards margerine, in tub style, as it has fewer trans fats than stick margerine. So...

I made it here...
4 August 2006 19:57Had about 3 hours of sleep, maybe, and headed to the airport at 4am. Got there in plenty of time. Was able to chat with a young couple on their way back to Victoria, BC. Oh, how my heart leapt. But it was early, and they probably didn't want to talk to a crazy American as obsessed over the city as I am (I still carry the downtown map we got from the hotel in my purse, from February) struggling to stay awake at 5am, so I let them go on their way. The plane from Atlanta to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was a puddle jumper and was smelly, but I met a nice girl, only a few years older than me, and we got along well. We have the same return flight to Atlanta too! :)
Rochelle, my brother's girlfriend, picked me up and we all met at Wegman's for lunch and a few groceries and then we came home, and took Luzy, their new 2 month old kitten for a check up as she has a minor respiratory infection which seems quite common among cats in shelters. Played with her a bit and thenhad a small nap, and soon we will head out to dinner for a local specialty, and perhaps the 200th birthday anniversary of te city celebration and/or a movie later.
That's it for now peeps.
PS Pictures are being taken. I have a few of Luzy, but you can see her here. Her name is spelled with a "z" because they live in Luzerne County, and used that to come up with the name. She is so freaking cute!

His Dark Materials
3 August 2006 23:50I read Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy about a year ago. I recently head that there are plans for a movie of The Golden Compass, the first of the 3 books, and so my interest in the series has been re-awakened. I went to www.darkmaterials.com recently, and found the following item in the FAQ. I found this interesting as there is a religious overtone to the series, and the title of the series is inspired fom Milton's "Paradise Lost"...that most of us probably slept through reading in highschool.
( What are Philip Pullman's views on God? )
I also found an interesting article here, that compares Little Red Riding Hood with The Golden Compass.
( An excerpt )
I had no idea the version of the Little Red Riding Hood I grew up with was not the original one, or that the earlier versions were more grim than Grimm.
I am going to try to read more on the site later. I have to go to bed now though. Chas and I have to leave to go to the airport in a short few hours.

Ok, here it is...
3 August 2006 00:00I am about to do a friends cut. It is nothing personal to anyone, but I have to trim my list down. I can't keep up. If you were cut, and feel it might have been in error, that you do read my posts even if you haven't commented in a while, or that you would like to remain on my friends list, please reply to this post. I will be happy to reconsider anyone I cut. All comments will be screened for privacy.
I am back to being medicated daily again, and it sucks. But does it suck worse than sneezing all of the time? Is my drowsiness, moodiness, and brain fog really worth it? I'd have to say that it is shit for a trade off. Better to be drowsy than to have panic and anxiety attacks like I have had with Claritin-D, so Benadryll it is for me. Children's Benadryll, half dose, and I am still half baked. I am such a puss with drugs sometimes...they either have no effect on the symptom, or I react so strongly to them. Claritin *used to* work for me, but doesn' anymoret, and the Claritin-D fucks me up so bad...I had an anixiety attack with 24 hours of taking it. Ugh, that was really scary. I so do not want to go there again. Ever.
Well, I won't bore anyone with my stupid sinuses and allergies.

Pictures...
18 July 2006 23:45This is a picture I took on our recent trip to Asheville, NC. It was taken near the parking garage our rental was at while we were downtown shopping. I don't think this picture gives justice to the amount of hills there. We flat-landers aren't used to hills or mountains. :)

18 July 2006 23:20I was just watching a program, a little bit ago, called Wide Angle, on PBS. It is one of those global news documentary types of programs. I came across this one, because PBS is our default channel (2) on the dvr, and I heard an Eastern European voice, and that intrigued me. So, the program talked about the influx of Eastern European immigrants in Ireland, mainly Polish immigrants in Limerick, Ireland. I only caught part of it, and it sorta jumped around a bit, but I found it very interesting. I had no idea how much of a destination Ireland was for Eastern Europeans emmigrating! It reminds me of
adaneth's post about her recent trip to Ireland. I'd be really interested in seeing the whole program, to see how all the parts fit together. I'd really be interested in learning more on this subject.

16 July 2006 13:41Had loads of fun with Kristen and the kids yesterday shopping, and then later in the mini swimming pool, but now I am tired and sleepy. And sore. I am also really stuffy and sneezy. It sucks. Lately when I have been sneezing, I have heard pops and cracks in my neck and/or back, which can't be good, can they?
I think I am gonna go back and lie down. I don't care that it is almost 2pm. I hope Chas gets home soon, so we can snuggle up. Then, later, I can have Chas quiz me on my NCTI stuff, since my final is next Friday. I hope I pass.
