Had an interesting weekend...spent three days in a row seeing my Glitter! Was at graduation yesterday, and at her party today. and of course, as I mentioned earlier, celebratory sushi dinner Friday evening. We also ran errands this weekend...I picked up a new umbrella and pen at Office Depot, and a new pillow at K-Mart. It doesn't sound like much. I think it is going to work. I have such a hard time finding good pillows. I may decide to get the tempurpedic one at some point, if this one doesn't seem to work out. But I think it will be ok...gonna have to sleep on it to find out.

Fucking hilarious scene on Family Guy where Chris goes to get some milk at the grocery store, and he gets pulled into the A-HA video for "Take On Me" for a short bit. It was great!! And now they're referencing The Neverending Story. :)

My legs hurt so bad. Well, my calves really. I have been gimping off and on all day. I think it was from wearing my heels all day on Friday since we had graduation and a tour with the VP of Broadband. Might have been made worse by walking all over Waterford Lakes to get to the Old Navy yesterday. Anyhow, I know the broken skin on my heels are from the straps of the heels. I never really intended to wear them for too long, because of my foot problem, yet I wore them all day Friday. Stupid stupid me. But I do need to find some more nice dressy shoes for work.

I also got my bus pass for nest week. I admit to being a but nervous. I have pretty much always been able to get a ride or take my own car somewhere. Guess this will be practice for moving to Vancouver. I have also been thinking about martial arts classes of some kind, for self defense or something. It is odd, because I have been thinking about it since Friday afternoon, and tonight I see [livejournal.com profile] teajade talking about one form in her bio. I read it before, but did not make the connection to it then (I think the user pics in the gallery gave some clues too), and tonight, well, I think tonight was like a sign, saying I shojuld take a class of something! Maybe just yoga for starters, or pilates, or mayne something more hard core. I also read a post [livejournal.com profile] nymphie about her kung fu encounter with an impressive young person. I should research my options more.

Well, guess I should go to bed soon.

You'll have fun shopping at Old Navy! )

I also saw an amazing suit at Ann Taylor Loft Petites, one of the few places that has dressy clothes that fit me. Only this suit, like much of their stuff, had a hefty price tag. The jacket and pants came to about $245!! Pretty good for a suit of that caliber, but still...OUCH! I did not get it, though I really wanted to. One of these days I will spend some good money and get something like it since I have nothing like it in my wardrobe, and every woman needs a good suit like this whether for everyday or for special occasions. I could not find pics online to do it justice...it was black with tiny little pastel blue dots. There's this picture to sorta show the style, though the color is not right, and the jacket was different. I think it was a little shorter and had more buttons too. The pants and jacket were flowy, and the jacket was cropped shorter than most. I looked most delicious in it. So professional. It can be a pain here in Florida, but I love getting dressed up like that. :) But you get the idea. Much more formal than my cotton blazer and pants set.

I ran into an old friend of mine from high school tonight. Seems to be happening a lot lately. Anyhow, we were having graduation dinner (*) with Glitter and husband-to-be at Fuji, when all of a sudden, there she is. [Ok, so our table was at the front and so we saw everyone who came in!] Anyhow, she used to be my neighbor growing up, and she is the one who invited me into colorguard, which is something that defined my high school experience. She also knew Glitter; they were in the same graduating class. We chatted quite a bit while they were waiting for a table, and we had a good time. We had lots to talk about (it has been over 10 years since I last saw her). Hopefully we will be able to get together again soon. We exchanged contact info, and left feeling very positive about the whole meeting.

(*) I had my final day of classroom training, thus graduating after passing the final and Glitter graduates tomorrow. Her graduation is a bit bigger than mine! :P

Oh my poor car...what shall I do with with you??

Today was pretty good. It started out very slow, because I was so sleepy, but after lunch things picked up. Then there was the baby shower cake. So. Yeah. We got so off track and just bullshitted a bit toward the end of the day. We also shadowed for the first time. The guy I sat with was really nice and cool. It is weird shadowing, as I used to be the one that had people shadowing with me. I hope that I will be able to handle it all once it is time for me to go on the floor. I have a week more training, though next Wednesday is my ride along with a PC tech, and after that I have a transition period with mentors.

Well, that is it for now.

I saw [livejournal.com profile] sparklinggoddes today. She came and talked to my training class about software requests, and did an extraordinary job doing so. :)

The Butter Chicken curry paste that I mentioned I was going to use tonight is from Raj Masala, in a packet like that (though the Butter Chicken is missing from the picture). They have it in a simmer sauce in a jar, all mixed up and ready to use. I got them from an International food store, but if you have an Indian section in the grocery store or health food store like Whole Foods, you will probably find it.

A recipe is here, though there are many available online (this one had loads of positive feedback).

The recipe is here too. )

Quotes (some of my favorites!) from Londoners in response to yesterday's attacks:

From: http://www.livejournal.com/users/lithium_doll/140026.html

"It's hard to panic the British. They've dealt with the Blitz, the IRA, the Silurians, the Zarbi, the Daleks, the Cybermen..." - annlarimer

"When the news reporter said 'Shopkeepers are opening their doors bringing out blankets and cups of tea' I just smiled. It's like yes. That's Britain for you. Tea solves everything. You're a bit cold? Tea. Your boyfriend has just left you? Tea. You've just been told you've got cancer? Tea. Coordinated terrorist attack on the transport network bringing the city to a grinding halt? TEA DAMMIT! And if it's really serious, they may bring out the coffee. The Americans have their alert raised to red, we break out the coffee. That's for situations more serious than this of course. Like another England penalty shoot-out." - jslayeruk

(Someone made a user pic in response to this quote...see the whole post)

"Dude, the IRA's gonna be irked...and the last thing you do is piss off the Irish. There's got to be like terrorism rules 101. Never mess in the other guy's backyard." - medie

"I can feel my Britishness getting smugger and smugger every time I come online!" - lizzyrose89

Oh god I'm craving Cuban food right now. Black beans, Spanish rice, chourizo, and plantains to name a few things. Oh, and Materva (mate beer). Maybe this weekend?
plunkybug: (Default)
"I used to transfer from the Jubilee line to the Circle/Hammersmith/City line at Edgeware Rd. then ride on through Kings Cross on the way to and from work every day at that time. Tavistock Square is about a 5 min walk from FSU's campus."

I can't imagine how rattled I would be now if he were still living and working in London.

Not a terribly exciting day. Like I said earlier, I spent much of the morning filling out paperwork and stuff for the new job. Loads of fun, eh? We spent a little time with learning about the company and the beginning of cable and such. So far, so good. Only bad thing so far is that there is not going to be a tech ride...something to do with the storm season. Boo. :(

Anyhow, my back seems to be bothering me a bit and I am also very tired now. Will be asleep before I hit the mattress...
plunkybug: (Default)
I am posting this from home. Yup, I said home. That's because for the first time in forever, I actually live near where I work. Granted we have an hour and a half lunch today. But still, lunch left at home is no longer an issue. I had to pick up some headphones we borrowed from a friend so we can return them to him later this evening. I decided to do it now rather than after training ends that way I can go straight there without having to backtrack too much. Or battle possible rain.

Lots of paperwork so far, and orientation kicks off when I get back from lunch.

More later kids!
