Is it me, or has Simon Le Bon gained a fair bit of weight? That's what it looked like to me during those close ups on the Live 8 highlight show during "Save A Prayer" in Rome. Has he let himself go, or is it just simply age? I mean, the guys are getting on a bit (and there were some true *fossils* in this highlight program too), most of the musicians I like are in that category, but he looks like your typical middle aged British guy now, not superstar Simon Le Bon. That said, he still looks pretty good for however old he must be, so I guess it shouldn't matter too much. Maybe I am wrong, as I look through photos of the gig on a fansite, as they have pictures with a different profile, adn a short sleeved shirt, and now I think it may be the opposite of letting himself go...I think that maybe the bulk is from working out or something, because it seems only in the upper body, and his arms look pretty muscular. The pictures do give me a different perspective now.

Pics from the fansite...big...sorry. )

I am truly dismayed in some of the posts lately in [livejournal.com profile] childfree. It seems that there is so much negativity and hatred toward children. I may or may not have children in the future, and therefore I am childfree, by at least my definition (by theirs I would be called childless), and I do not hate children. There are plenty of people who never want to have children of their own, for their own reasons, and love kids. I may have to withdraw my membership if they continue the negativity. It is one thing to not have kids by choice, and another to applaud a woman grabbing her 3 year old daughter by the hair and dragging her to the car after running loose in a mall parking lot (or advocating the use of a permanent leash...how demeaning!). The kid is fucking 3 years old!! They're going to act like it too. It is the parent's responsibility to watch out for the child's safety and well being. If that means carrying your 3 year old while out in a parking lot because they are know to run around (as young kids do) then so be it. Hold hands tightly if need be. Be a good parent and don't be cruel or abusive to the kid like that just to get the message across. That harbors resentment and anger and could cause more bad habits in the future. Find another way of reprimanding th kid for doing that that is not hurtful, but gets the message across. Just actually do your job as a parent. Truly these hateful people have never gotten the love from a child that is so pure, and infectious. It would be good for them if they did.

I...I don't know if I should continue watching this show. Every episode, old or new, has something to offend me and hurt my brain. Over and over again. I think I am inching further to brain death each episode I see.

In my state earlier, and kinda now, just not the moodiness or crying, I decided to make more garlic soup, but I did it differently today.

I decided to omit the Better Than Bouillon til the end, and therefore simmered the garlic in the water directly. It actually looked cool! I used a little less garlic than I had been before, but still a fair amount. The reason for not adding the BTB to the hot water was I wanted to see if it kept the broth cleaner looking as it kinda breaks up a little with the simmering and foams a bit, which isn't bad. It is only me eating it, but it also let me add the right amount of broth the the water later. This was a good decision.

My additions were a little leftover rotisserie chicken from dinner last night, and a handful of egg noodles. Again, to keep the water pure, I put a handful of noodles and a good amount of water into my micro cooker, and set it for 10 minutes while the garlic was cooking in the water and I shredded a few bits of chicken for my soup. When all components were done (including mashing the garlic), I add them back to the pan, with a good bit of parsley and let it simmer together for a little while longer on low.

And it was so yummy. I forced myself not to have it all in one sitting so I would have some later after my nap. And of course it was sitting together, and the flavors melded and all that while I was sleeping. I think it is my best version yet.

Dear Claritin-D,

Thank you so much for making me feel like absolute crap last night and today, and essentially making me have mental breakdowns. Moody doesn't even begin to describe how I feel right now. I am tired of crying for no reason. I am tired of being tired because you wouldn't let me sleep well last night. I am tired of my head feeling tight and buzzy, and in general, feeling dizzy and dehydrated. I am tired of feeling out of breath and my chest beating a million miles an hour (which is probably why it feels sore too). I am tired of everything you have but me through since I ingested you and your contents began running rampant in my system yesterday afternoon. You're cousin Zyrtec-D made me feel like this, though not after one pill, and not quite as severe either. You didn't used to treat me like this, so why now?

Fitfully yours,
Lost Little Girl

Saw a cute play called "Six Women With Brain Death or Expiring Minds Want To Know" the other night. Title isn't totally appropriate, but it was still cute, and the title song is in my head. Ran into someone who knows my parents.

Got together with friends we hadn't seen in a while last night; had a dog sniff my girl bits. Yay.

Chas and I helped out a friend of ours do a mock interview with one of his clients today; we got a $40 gift card for Macy's each of us from the girl we were helping. Shopping spree(!). Ran into someone else who knows my parents.

Helped another friend of ours with computer stuff (I got to play with a demo of File Maker Pro 7 for the first time and will be getting a free [legit] copy of it!), and got a free lunch at Steak and Ale. I had the fillet. For lunch. Got a few shirts from her, read a little, got to ride in her rental Jag. And so forth.

Had celebratory sushi dinner with Glitter and lil cuz. I had some plum wine too. Yum. With tips, it was $42 for us. Is that not the perfect way to end a perfect meal?

Borders. Ran into several people I know, some who did not know we knew each other. Weird.

That's all for now.

Degrassi marathon!! Woo hoo!!!

Still missed the first episode where more of the original show's characters show up, though I intend on getting the DVDs since even though this is the "every episode ever" marathon, I bet The-N is still showing the censored versions without the abortion episodes.

Tired.

Moody.

Fun day at work.

Pissed off at my local HR department.

Might need to go shopping; no jeans at BH for business casual apparently.

So, my mom spontaneously gave me a quart sized ziploc full of peeled fresh garlic last night at the Father's Day gathering. So what to do with it before it goes rancid in my fridge? Ask LJ, and ask I did. One of the people suggested a roasted garlic soup, but the recipe called for unpeeled cloves. Then someone later described how to make it with peeled cloves, and mentioned it would help clear the sinuses (!) so here is what I did:

I filled my All Clad 1 qt pan with water near the top (approximately to the top of the rivets), probably leaving an inch or so left so it wouldn't boil over. Was probably about 2-3 cups worth, though I did not measure. Any small pan will work, but the one I used is small for a few single servings, and it was a gift, so I enjoy using it when I can. :)

I brought the water to a boil, though once it had heated sufficiently, I added a spoonful of Better than Bouillon chicken flavor to the water to dissolve. added about a dozen of the garlic cloves. I should have trimmed the ends before, but I did it later.

Brought to a simmer and about 40 minutes later the garlic was sufficiently tender like roasted garlic is.

Fished out the garlic with a slotted spoon on to a small plate. I ended up getting the brown ends of here, but it doesn't matter. Mash away with a fork until paste-like, and add herbs. Suggestions were sage and bay leaf, but I had neither, so I used a few pinches of parsley, oregano, and thyme, with a few red pepper flakes and mashed in the mixture.

Added the mixture to the soup base and stirred till it the garlic herb mix was evenly distributed. I had to dilute the overall results, because during the simmer, the broth reduced a bit, making it more concentrated, and saltier, but you can adjust to taste.

It was yummy, and as a base can have other things like rice, noodles, chicken, beans, or veggies. But it was fine as it was. I might oven roast the garlic next time, if I have more time, for a little deeper and sweeter flavor, and a little more color. Or I might chop a little raw garlic and add it at the end for a little heat.

Note: this is very garlicky, and if you perspire, your sweat will likely smell like garlic too, but this is a sign that the health benefits of garlic are working through your system. More on this here. If it really bothers you, you can reduce the amount of garlic, or just stay in a cool area if possible, and if not, have a hot shower. :P

So, because I slept all day in a drugged slumber from the maxalt, I had immense difficulty sleeping last night, to the tune of I was still up when the sun started shining outside. Between rest and sleep, I might have clocked 3 hours total. Maybe 4. Groan. But I have to be up so I can be tired enough to get to sleep tonight so I can wake up on time for work tomorrow.

"Migraines suck ass!" I thought earlier as I saw unconsciousness rushing toward me. "No time for the vibrator now."

The short, short version:

Migraine this morning. No meds til after drug screening. Took Maxalt for it after. Ate at Perkins. Chas did a few errands on the way home. Legs like jelly. Passed out from about 1:30pm til just now. Slept all day. Hooray. Brain functioning returning slowly. Have legs though. Jeebus!

Need food now.
