Looks like I am taking the 2:15 bus today. Sean is not home, and Chas was at work when I called him half an hour ago, and he has not yet called me back to say whether he'd be home in time to take me in at my normal time. Grumble grumble. Stupid construction. I have to leave a full hour earlier. Bah! Guess I should continue to get ready. Sigh...

Update: My knight in shining armour called about 10 minutes or so ago, and he'll be home in time to take me to work. :)

Woke up at about 9:30 or so to the sound of fire engines going by. Lots of them. They got closer and closer, and eventually stopped in front of our building. It appears that there was a fire in the building behind us. Don't know how it happened, or whether anyone was home or not. It was odd looking through the back windows, seeing the fire crew pumping water in the bottom floor apartment. They also had to break the other bottom floor window, and the two upstairs windows were propped up. There is a yellow police line over the front of the building now. FOX 35 News was out earlier, filming a piece for the news later. The crew are still here picking things up, and getting ready to go, though they have been here for hours. Chas is blocked in by the trucks and equipment and can't go to work. My gain?? :)

And, erm, about that renters insurance??? Maybe now is the time to look into it.

I think I may try and rent a car next weekend while Chas is in Vancouver. I should try to figure out how much it will cost. It would be cheaper if his car were here while he is gone (it would be free), but the flight is out of Tampa, and well, he needs it to get to Tampa. I guess it will partly depend on what I get for days off with the new schedule after shift bids on Tuesday, and what kind of transition schedule I get, if any. I hope I won't have a problem with getting to and from work while he is gone. Again, that's all up to the shift bid goddess, and my lack of seniority.

I think I should go to bed soon, even if it is earlier than I have been going to bed lately.

I am sick of having headaches off and on for the last few days. Argh. Hopefully, they were Katrina related (as in change in air pressure), and that as she passes further away, they will too. Nothing seems to be helping except the antihistamine/decongestant/pain relief type meds, which ultimately put me to sleep, where ultimtely I feel no pain. I bought decongestant/pain relief stuff today, though it hardly helped. It is somewhat subdued right now, but not totally gone. Hopefully, with tomorrow off, I will feel better.

...and I want you to know I will always be your friend. Thanks for the call and update tonight. Hope you feel better soon!

I have a mega headache now, but I wanted to mention to those out there who care, that I finished Half Blood Prince a few days ago. Remind me not to finish reading it just before going to work again. It was not a good idea. Anyhow, I am open for discussion on HBP.

So, my timing was perfect, well, nearly. My new cell phone did in fact arrive for my birthday (as planned); it arrived on my birthday, only I had to have Chas pick it up for me today as I couldn't get over to my parent's last night when they called to say it arrived. Had they called earlier, and having been home from work, I could have gotten it sooner.

Anyhow, after struggling for many minutes, and using the spare set of covers to reverse-engineer the task at hand, I FINALLY got the cover off the back to get the new SIM card and battery in, and while I was at it I changed to the black cover and one of the other cover cut-outs. Yay me, I did it myself! The transfer of info from my old SIM is going to be a bitch, though I hear it can be done in one of the stores quite easily and efficiently too.

It is way past my bedtime, even with the new schedule, and all, so I must retire for now.

Chas and I got up this morning about 11am and headed to The Peacock Room in our pj's for Cereal Sunday; a morning of free cereal, pop tarts, other breakfast-y things, and booze (they charged for that!) among cartoons like Jonny Quest, Speed Racer, Justice League, etc. We were interviewed and photographed by people from the Orlando Sentinel covering the event, so it is likely there will be a picture and/or quote from from us in their article, which they said will be out sometimes this week in the Life and Times section.

Visited my grandad very briefly, and went to mall for me to get a few things. Rested a bit at home before heading to Bosphorus for dinner. Oh it was so good! There was so much on the menu I wanted to try. Glitter and I decided that we are definitely going back to do a meze dinner, order a bunch of appetizers and share, much like the Spanish tapas. Chas and I had two appetizers to start out with: a pan fried zucchini cake/fritter with garlic yogurt sauce and pan fried filo dough cigars with feta and seasonings inside. For our main courses, I had these "ravioli" type things...they were really more like lamb dumplings with a spiced yogurt sauce, and Chas had these char-grilled kebab things made with both beef and lamb, along with rice pilaf and vegetables. Glitter had this lamb and veggie stew in an earthenware dish, and her to-be had some called Sultan's Delight, though not sure exactly what it was, however it looked good, and I am glad he was brave enough to try the food, for he was rewarded. My parent's both had lamb dishes, and our other diner had a salad that he demolished. They also served this really thin and puffy bread, though I am not sure what it is called. For dessert, we all had different things...I had almond pudding, but I don't remember what everyone else had. And my dad and Glitter had some Turkish coffee...it is not known to be weak stuff. Glitter was a trapped electron, bouncing wherever she could. We walked Park Avenue is the hot humid air for a bit before going home.

My swag:

I got a wacky pack box of cards and an album to collect them in from one of our friends.
I got "Gear" by Alton Brown from Glitter and to-be.
My parents paid for dinner and gave me a few books, saying more was to come.
And from Chas, I got an iPod Shuffle, which he pre-loaded already.

Ah, well, it's actually my birthday now, hurrah! Maybe my new cell phone will come later today. :)

Sleepy, so going now.

I survived my first 3:30pm-12:30am shift yesterday. Got home near 1am, and to bed near 2am. It does indeed feel strange to be home at noon on a Monday, and not have called out sick. It also felt odd forgoing the need to set my alarm as well.

I have a few things I would like to do before I go to work this afternoon. I would really like to dye my hair. I knew I should have washed my hair when I got in this morning, would have saved me some time now, since I need to get up to the Albertsons to get a new bus pass, and maybe a few things from Chamberlins if I have the time. Maybe I will just call a cab to get up there. It will cost more, but I won't have to sit in the heat waiting for the right bus.

Well, gotta go now.

Did my first regular shift tonight, though I won't normally be working Sundays unless I choose to, and get it, in the next shift bid. I am sleepy and will go to bed soon. But before I do, I want to see if those mutual friends of mine know what happened to [livejournal.com profile] mamarose? I have been behind on some posts. Did I miss something major??

I forgot to mention that I ordered my new cell phone today. It is the Nokia 3220...the one I wrote about many months ago. I am getting it, and a new SIM card, for $90 plus tax (free shipping), and it should arrive in time for my birthday in just over a week. Yay! Happy birthday to me. This was the lowest price I have been officially offered, and the addition of the SIM card makes this a better deal as they usually cost about $30 by themselves, and the phone sells for $100 or more on ebay.

Here is the phone... )

Did some errands today, nothing of too much interest. Missed shopping with [livejournal.com profile] nymphie. My fault-I wanted to eat lunch first. We took our pillows back to K-Mart and I swapped for the more expensive tempurpedic style to see if it works. I hope so. I am sick of not having a good pillow that doesn't leave my neck sore in the morning. The one I had was almost good, but not quite what I need...still better than most. Chas also needed to return some shoes to Payless...I saw some funky pink Airwalk garden clogs. I would like to see if they come in black or brown, but I doubt it. I also picked up some hair dye from Chamberlins. I can't stand to see my roots right now; they look so dull in comparison to the rest of my hair. It was so hot today (101F) and having done all the running around town, we decided to have a nap for a bit.

On a whim, Chas and I decided to invite my parents to Sweet Tomatoes for dinner. )

I just felt like posting the full picture from where my icon comes from. It is a Waterhouse painting, as he is my favourite painter.

This humidity is making me feel like a lobster. I feel like I am being steamed and ready to be served. My face was even a bit flushed and red after standing outside for a few minutes waiting for the bus. :) The visibility is low...there is such a haze hanging around. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

Oh how I long for the cool mid-70's temperature my fellow Vancouverites are getting right now. I would welcome it with such open arms.
