Last weekend I took [livejournal.com profile] warzau_kitten out for her birthday...it was actually Friday July 6th, but I worked, so I rented a car for the next day and took out. On one of our stops, we went to a nearby health food store looking for something, and although they did not have it, they had something else I wanted. Perfume oil. Sandalwood perfume oil. I love sandalwood! I have for maany years actually. I ended up getting a smaller but somehow more expensive vial of a blend of sandalwood with amber. It is a blend I have always liked, and a few times I have gotten some bath products with either sandalwood or amber or both in them.

Anyhow, I was wearing some later that weekend, and thinking, "Wow, this scent is just so Plunky" without trying to sound arrogant or anything, but sometimes things are just so right for your personality, and this was one of them. This is warm and sweet and musky and a little bohemian. And me.

It wasn't til later on in the week, when I was wearing it, when I realized why it seemed so "me". It was because it was familiar, and I mean that in the sense of the word "family" when I say that. Because I was thinking of my grandma, and how she smelled. She wore Shalimar. And I"ll bet you that this blend smells an awful lot like Shalimar does.

I miss my grandma a lot. I have come to realize that some of the things I like are from her. But that is good. :)

I took a little bit of video with my cell on Friday...quality is pretty low with my inferior cell phone, and each bit is only 15 seconds long, but here ya' are! (Oh, and if the 2nd doesn't show it, it may still be processing...if it doesn't process soon though, I will have to try to re-upload it later)

I am, for the most part, a very pure girl. I have a few wild streaks and things that people wouldn't really tell by looking at me, but for the most part I am the sweet innocent girl most people see me as, and want to corrupt. Or corrupt further once they know how I have been corrupted thus far. Tonight I can add something new to my list of lifetime experiences. Chas and I went to a local dive bar (and boy was it dive) to see friends play in a couple of bands. We walked in and there is heavy thugging gangsta rap with some silly young wiggers (not my term) and they were making fools of themselves and getting out-numbered by us, the cool garage band crowd, rapidly. One of the guys at one point had begun belching into the microphone and one of our friends, who was in one of the bands playing, teased and said he'd have to pour his beer over the mic to kill the cooties. The remark was missed by me at the time, and I guess it took a while for this to get through to the guy, the skinny white gangsta boy. While the first band was on, said skinny white gangsta boy aproached our friend, and you could tell that he was mad and was going to do something. Some sort of banter exchanged, and then the skinny white gangsta boy slapped our friend, who I might add is at least twice this guy's size. And a fight broke out instantly. Our friend's wife, about the same size as he is, jumped in too, which was awesome. But it was my first time actually seeing a bar fight, and this place was pretty small, and so I was admittedly a bit shaken. But you know, there was a brief fleeting moment, as I saw the lead-to, that part of me did NOT want to hide and cower, but rather to walk over and stand in front of our friend, to see if he'd actually hit a girl like me. Of course our friend is a good foot taller than me, and the skinny white gangsta boy could have easily thrown a punch above my head, but it was a fleeting thought. Is that silly that I'd want to actually JUMP IN and try to stop a fight I could see was coming? Small little plunkybug? In the middle of a fight? I doubt it, because fear won out and I was just very conscious of every move that was made and whether it would impact me in any way. It was diffused pretty quickly though. My hands were a bit shakey afterward when I'd sent a text to my brother about it, who of course teased me about it.

So there. Seeing my first bar fight at nearly 33 years of age. Check.

I just caught a glimpse of a special on VH-1 Classic. It was a Blondie concert, and at one moment, a group pipers came on stage, playing Sunday Girl on bagpipes. Very weird. But interestingly enough, it kinda worked.

and I learned she had been on band in high school as I had, though I was in the colorguard, and she was a percussionist (at least at one point) so I decided to try to look up my high school marching band or winter guard shows on youtube. My junior and senior years were better than my freshman and sophomore years, and we only competed in winter guard my senior year, once we had built up speed and momentum with a new director. So far I haven't seen/found my school or my shows in particular, but I found this one, from a high school in Lake City, FL, about 3-4 hours away from us here. It starts slow, but it picks up, and I think there are elements here that Miss Teajade will appreciate.

I think there is only one person on this list that will understand why I chose the next video. Crestview in San Diego? Ha ha ha! Isn't bad, for Crestview, but then there is FUCKALL to do in Crestview. What I like about this show is the sabre use mixed well with the rifles and flags. Sabres are harder to see but are typically best with more fluid music while rifles make a bolder statement. I still have my sabre, though mine is one with padding and tape, and the ones here aren't, and let me tell you what a bitch it is to have it (or the rifle, moreso) land wrong in your hand, or on your arm or wrist or anywhere it shouldn't. The padding helps a lot. Gloves are usually pretty standard, but I was unable to see if anyone in the videos thus far had any on.

Btw, a few things 1) yes, the makeup is particularly gaudy and overdone, for the same reason that actors in theater go heavy on the makeup too...it helps with the distance views and overall performance, and 2) depending on the show, you can hear a lot of yelling, screaming and clapping at times...that is usally because the rifles or sabres did a toss, and usually a substantial toss...tosses are measured by the number of revolutions it makes in the air, so 1 rotation is a single, 2 is a double, and so on...quads get a lot of applause 3) you'll also notice a lot more dance when the winter guard season picks up (this takes place after football season ends and the band and guard go indoors) whereas during marching season there is more, well, marching and 4) after the 5-6 minute show, you are so tired and hot and sore, and it feels incredible to hear that applause, to the point it is deafening and you can't hear the music which is so awesome.

So, I left work early to go to the hospital where my dear friend was admitted earlier and she needed me. And I needed to see her after I heard what had happened. So sad for her.

Left the hospital a few hours later, came home in the rain, and did not know what to make for dinz. And Chas out at a meeting where there was food, and he would not be home for a bit. But in the end I grabbed a few things from the fridge with an impromptu idea. I took the last small bit of cooked Goya Spanish rice (the yellow kind) I had, the last 2 eggs I had, a potato, last bit of butter (replaced with stick from freezer though) and Adobo seasoning from Goya. I washed and cleaned the potato, and sliced in small cubes, and boiled in water til a knide tip went through easy enough. I drained the water, added the butter and sprinkled the adobo seasoning and mixed, then let it cook in the pan on medium heat. Once nicely browned, I removed from the pan and added the leftover cooked rice and stirred in the remaing butter mix to heat, and transfered to a plate. I topped the rice with the cooked potatoes, and cracked the 2 eggs to cook in the pan. When done, I added the eggs to the top of the rice and potatoes.

My mom just got back from spending 2 weeks in Israel with her longtime friends Karen and Jay, who you might recall I called non-blood family who will be family by marriage in a year. They'd all been 40 years ago as teens. This is what she brought back for me.

Lovebird Necklace )

She also brought back a magnetic bookmark which is awesome, and a raw Eilat Stone (pronounced like "ay-lot"). About the Eilat Stone )

The raw, unpolished stone is great actually. I think it has a nice variety of colors.

We had a friend to help tonight, and afterward we were both famished, and needed dinner, but where would we go at nearly 10pm...on a Friday night? A few minutes of thought, and as we were driving toward home, we spotted Houston's and decided to go there, even though we thought it would be packed and we knew it was pricey...we had decided to just get appetizer's and if we were hungry still, we'd have something at home.

We went inside and were seated within minutes, much to our surprise, and much to my surprise, they had a veggie plate, as Houston's is known for their steaks. The veggie plate was a variety of veggie dishes...steamed cauliflower with cashews and a light creamy curry laced sauce (I think there might have been some kind of bean too, but I am not sure), carrots and parsnips in a maple sauce, garlic parmesan green beans with fingerling potatoes (I think) and corn, cooked but chilled mutant asparagus (I kid you not...these things were thicker than my fingers and a good 7 inches or more I'd guess...I'll take a pic of my leftovers in the morning) with a dijon hollandaise sauce served with a chilled cous cous salad. Chas ended up hearing the specials including a "Rutherford Ribeye" and we both drooled over the guacamole and chips...avocado, corn, onion, and tomatoes...and the taste of the avocado wasn't dulled. The guac was quite fresh and tasty with the freshly made tortilla chips. SO...$80 later, and full and satisfied, we left. :P I paid, my treat, since Chas has been very wonderful to me lately, and I wanted to thank him. And of course it is payday. :)

Wish I'd had room to try some dessert and coffee, but I admit I gobbled up the guac and chips and was really pretty full by the time my food had arrived. I admit I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and the food. We will definitely go back, though it is pricey, so it can't be too often.

Fido trailer is up, and it doesn't have "the guy" doing the narration. Odd.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/fido/trailer1a/

PS The trailer has The Ramones "I Wanna Be Sedated" in it. :D

Oh, and also, for those who haven't seen it yet (because for some strange reason Apple doesn't have the trailer)...The Golden Compass trailer.

I made the first dish last week, and a modified version this past Saturday for [livejournal.com profile] warzau_kitten and 2 of her 3 kidlets.

Smoky Mac and Cheese

Elbow macaroni with fire-roasted tomatoes and scallions (green/spring onions) in a creamy cheese sauce made with cream, dijon mustard, paprika, and smoked cheddar cheese. Breadcrumb and parmesan cheese topping.

I had my appointment last Tuesday to have my ankle looked at. Yes, I waited too long to do it, but at least I did. It is still swollen with a wee bit of bruising...not that *I* could see it, but the doctor could. He gave me a prescription for Naproxen (same thing Alleve is made of, but in a much higher dose) for the swelling and inflamation but also samples of Nexium to take in order to prevent the high dosage of the Naproxen from ripping my stomach to shreds. With my stomach, that is a good thing. I didn't really bring up my suspicions about having IBS, though I sorta mumbled it as he was getting the samples. We did discuss doing a physical since I haven't had one done in a while and he is a new doc to me (my former doc became a military doc). He also had me get my ankle x-rayed to be sure. I haven't heard back so that is usually good. He said if the swelling wasn't better in a week, that I was to go to a podiatrist, and he gave me a referral. It doesn't hurt quite so much today, and I can move it around a little more comfortably than before, but I don't think the swelling has changed much so far.

The other thing is that the day I took those smoke pics on the way to the bus, I tripped and fell on my hands and knees (on the sidewalk mind you), and as it were, the knee on the left side (same as ankle injury) has a big bruise. I have a small mark on my left thumb too. Other than that, I am fine. I just feel odd that I have been so clumsy trippy lately. I haven't done anything different that I am aware of. I caught myself from tripping again today, more than a few times. Seriously, I don't know what is up.

But that is the ankle update so far.

This is my exit in the picture. I live about 5 minutes away from where this was taken. Looks like dense fog, but it is not in the slightest! It is like standing in an enclosed room with lots of people cooking on charcoal grills. The smoke does have a tendency to come and go in patches, so it is better at times than others. With the threat of Sub-Tropical Storm Andrea, it could prove to be worse in the next few weeks. I really hate this smoke.

"A blanket of smoke hangs over Interstate 4, approaching Lee Road west of Maitland today. Fires burning in parts of Lake and Volusia left have layers of smoke and ash in the skies across Central Florida."

I did an easy round, hints turned on, but no wrong guesses, in 16 minutes and 50 seconds. Usually it takes about 25 minutes on average...I have had 22 minute games and others 32 minute...this was definitely an easy one. I want to get better about playing and guessing the numbers so I can turn the hints off and just see where it goes from there. In any case, I am very pleased with myself.

...sometimes I think that others know me better than I do, so I valued his opinion on the answers to this test. I love this book, the whole series really, so I had to take this. I have 12 days before he takes this form forever, so for those who know me well, or at least think you know me well enough, what do you think? Maybe a fox is not his true form.
